From struggle to millions

Now that I have you here there was no struggle really , it seems like its the theme here so apologies for not having a cooler story , as I didn't walk 10 miles to school nor got kicked out by my landlord , I was the guy who did business at young age (from selling cigarettes in high school to throwing parties and promoting clubs in college) , always connecting with people , I was the lazy guy who got promoted over your hard working ass .

I am new here but not so new to the internet , I made a few grands back in 2002 from clickbank to a couple millions till late 2008 working with the biggest names you see today , got of the internet world when people I worked with started selling crap and posing as gurus , so my first tip to you is see how the rich make their money not what they tell you , I see some people here are moving decent numbers , you don't see this guys selling you an ebook do they ?

I like this place .

I invested my money on a real estate (slightly above 12mil) project had some trouble with it a year and half ago (some license BS) , but it will sort itself in 5 years .

So I got bored and come back to the internet , started Media buying again (OH I didn't tell you , well I was big on buying media before Carlos and his wife was selling some BS) so picked my dusty phone book from the shelves and started calling some sales managers/reps etc I worked with , most networks changed names , relocated but managed to get hold of a few .

In the past year 2013 well less than a year started promoting some offers spent over 2millions on media with 40% Roi .

Now I am here to share some of my experience and learn from yours especially as I am looking to get into Facebook (geez I don't even have a personal account on that thing).

I almost didn't sign up due to the name stackthatmoney (I was like seriously now !!) ,but glade I got over it this looks like a great community .

I used to do raves/club events for about 15 years, from early 90's until I grew too old for it ha..

Right on!

I grew up in a place that was notorious for big outdoor parties. There used to be this crew called junglepunks that would deck out these massive parties that would go for days. So many awesome memories.

Thanks , I started back in college it was in another city I was pretty much alone and got to thinking how to do I get to know people , have fun get lots of experiences while making some money on the process .

That is where I quickly figured out that I need to offer value (this is exactly how I go about promoting products via Media buying too) , so what do people in this college want , well :

Boys : Want to get laid and get drunk
Girls : Want to have fun/dance and get attention

They may want other things about I focused on this

I am a big advocate of let them come to you , and when they show bill em that's where Parties come to mind , started talking to other guys , collected some money to buy drinks , found a DJ (class mate) and a Venue (another rich kid in college) so I got started and from there to bigger venues , charging for the second drink and Yes I built a list , a list of hot girls that help me by inviting their other friends , as you know , if you have the hot girls guys will follow .

Got approached by a club owner to host parties in his club (slow nights) for a 20% of the profit , hired a few guys to do the job and shit got big until I graduated and left the city .

It is funny how some of my old classmates keep referencing me as some of them met their other half in one of this parties (hmmm another project maybe lol)

Now How do I apply this to Media buying , I target demographics , find where the people are , figure out what they want lets say Men from age 40 to 60 (it is little broad but you get the idea) what do they want or have in common , once you got that , find that thing they want and give it to them that simple .

There is some spy tools that helps now but I don't really use them ,it makes me lazy and want to copy stuff which is never good , you need to understand why things work the way they do so you can improve duplicate/scale etc , you can't do that when you are a copy cat and you will be vulnerable to competition, have no skills except for copy/past .

Another way I do it is get in touch with a Traffic source and just ask them what is working right now (The power of connecting with people and helping eachothers) , see what is being pushed and take it from there .

Or pick some of the highest trafficked websites and watch them closely for 2 weeks to a month and see what is being promoted .

And start testing and optimizing , I optimize one thing at a time , creatives to landing page / landing page to offer .

So if you know a offer/product is working (by doing the work I outlined above , I also pick 1 to 3 verticals to work with) and are getting low CTR , work on your creatives first , once you got that improved work on your Landing page to improve CTR to the offer , after that you rotate offers/products or improve on them if they are yours .

Hope that helps

Dunno how you stayed in business on that margin. We used to go direct to the venue and offer them a flat rate hire fee and collect all door money.. and on external events, the same but also run the bars. I squandered most of that young money on nothing..

It was the first deal nothing to call home about but it got things rolling once I got accurate numbers .

Hahaha don't let the name fool you, we could have gone with something more professional&classy but we didn't because we wanted to keep the point simple.
