Hey guys, working with Exoclick/AAP, questions as listed in the title:
1. How much does file size matter when uploading creatives? Assuming that your banners are smaller than the file size limit your traffic source has in place, is there any benefit in making them any smaller? Not aware whether site generally load your banner image as part of a 'whole', or independently. If the latter, there would be lots of people scrolling down the page immediately, and potentially missing sight of the banner completely.
I've saved a few example banners from xhamster that loaded quickly to check average file size; haven't seen any .gif-based banners too far over 200-250kb. However, usually whenever I spot a potentially good .gif, even when I optimise/crop/resize the file (using ezgif) I cannot get the file-size anywhere near that without the .gif having 8 colors and looking thoroughly busted..
2. I'm using AAP as my tracking tool. Very much recommended.. whether I'm running ads via premium or RON, I want to take advantage of those placements with positive ROI, and obviously cut those sites that are showing a negative ROI/no CVR's. Is there recommended guidelines for making those cuts? I had an idea to apply Caurmen's "Exact Binomial and Poisson Confidence Intervals" calculator that I use for ads in exactly the same way, but wanted a second opinion from anyone with more experience than me.
Thanks in advance..
I've wondered about filesizes for ads too: never done a split-test, but I should do.
I don't have any firm info at the moment, but this looks like a perfect topic for a test. Look for one in the next couple of weeks!
This might not be the best way and its not that scientific but when I'm cutting placements from RON I have a couple of simple criteria:
1. placement CTR - for example if its under 0.2% I cut it
2. Landing page CTR - if its under 20% I cut it
3. I also cut all irrelevant placements as soon as you see them (gay, tranny etc)
Then I will let all qualifying placements run to 2X offer payout and if they are not break even or above at this point I cut them.
Not sure if this is the best way but it has worked OK for me in the past
