TJ Question: Bidding

How important is it to bid into the top spot? I'm wondering if it has any impact on conversion rates or CTRs. I have a good bit of data but haven't really been keeping track of where I was in the bid order during that time, was wondering if anyone has any insight or thought about this themselves!

The higher your bid, the 'fresher' your impressions are. Meaning top bid gets impression 1 to 3 (assuming freq level is at 3/day). Bid2 gets the 4th, Bid3 the 5th etc. etc.

Please remember this is just an example, in reality, it's much more complicated as not the top bid gets 100% of the first impressions. This is just to explain the following: usually the more on top in the display queue you are, the better the quality gets. Often enough campaigns bidding 0.50$ CPM are doing better than same targeting with a 0.10$ CPM. Higher CTR and fresher impressions make up for it.

So yes, it definitely has impact on CTR / CR. Just imagine a real life example: on a fruit market, you're the first to sell your Apples to someone entering the market. He has likely not purchased Apples before, has no possibility to get distracted before he sees your Apples. Plus, he wasn't able to spend (=sign up) for a different boot to buy apples from
