I'm quitting my Match.com job. Ask me questions. (28)

I'm quitting my Match.com job. Ask me questions.

I finished college Spring 2013 and immediately got a job working working for a big dating advertiser. I worked in the office w/ Match.com, Tinder, and People Media (SeniorPeopleMeet, BlackPeopleMeet, BBPeopleMeet, etc). But, I couldn't take working in a cubicle all day. I was a CPA affiliate during college and stopped once Epic/Azoogle & Copeac went under (got worried)...which is why I decided to get a job upon graduation.

I managed affiliates, ran social campaigns (spent $450k m/o on FB), and got a huge feel for the inside industry.
Feel feel to ask, Skype, or PM me questions about my time working full-time there.

I am curious, how long it takes for those companies to turn a profit on leads they pay to affiliates?

Holy shit nice post! Bet you are going to get bombed with PMs.

Give us some dirt. What was the sneakiest thing Match.com did to affs?

What did you learn that you can apply to affiliate campaigns today?

So you were the guy deciding my traffic was bullshit after 13 conversions (seniorpeoplemeet) and told the affiliate managers to ban me for this offer?

How does this make any sense? "premature optimization is the root of all evil" and these affiliates won't promote any people media offer anymore.

I just would like to learn how these decisions are justified in the perspective of an advertiser (and learn from it). Thanks.

I learned alot there. Almost all properties pay pubs on net 30.
In all honestly, they are pretty transparent. They are all owned by IAC, a multi-billion public company. So alot of what happens is dictated by IAC, downwards.

Match doesn't rely too much on affiliates, so good luck trying to run their offer.
People Media relies more on affiliates...but most big ad networks (FB, Google) won't really let affiliates run on their ad platforms.

That being said...they do make alot of $ off some affiliates. There are some pretty big email guys out there..so if you have a nice list then you're in biz!

I'd like to know everything about Tinder! It's owned by Match? Did they buy it or create it?

Tell us about the algorithm?

Most popular city's?

Anything else interesting?

Tinder was started internally by IAC in 2012.
IAC owns match, people media, tinder, etc.

It's run by a bunch of 20-something year olds, who use 'viral' marketing in colleges (they probably work 3 hours a day in the office).
It doesn't make any revenue, but has a huge buzz. LA is very popular.

I found interesting that it's only sparked 2 marriages...but is responsible for 437,021 females getting pounded out.

Was it being in a cubicle that set you off or did you have the itch for running media buys on your own terms?

LA you say? Off to download the app...

I'm interested in is that a real fact? How does tinder know how many girls are getting the D?

So what's the tracking pixel you guys use to measure these conversion rates?

02-25-2014 06:42 AM #18 Mr Green (Administrator)

@maynzie the data is for real, tinder has a new tripadvisor type feature. Once girls have received the D they go back and write a review. There five criteria; cleanliness, creativity, size, stamina, and overall satisfaction.

In all honesty...Tinder literally is the best hookup app on the market.

Split-test a few photos, "like" every girl (and just delete any slam-pigs you get paired with), and send a nice message to any decent matches.

Where to know for you? You gonna take the skills you learnt media buying and smash down some of your own commissions?

So this is where things get a little too real.

This app LULU now allows girls to add guys by their facebook (without your auth) and then can rate you based on dates/sexual experiences.

Met a group of girls who we're on it scanning through guys. Kind risky business
