flying into Thailand you get a 30 day tourist visa granted automaticly. by land you get 14 days. if you want to stay longer without doing a visa run, you will have to apply

also depends on which country you are from

you American? Most places the fine for overstaying your visa is peanuts... Might wanna check that... When i was in Argentina, the fine for overstaying your visa was the equivilant of 30usd, even if you stayed for a year...

thx.
so best option besides getting a 60day visa, would be to book 30 days fly to another country for a few days and fly back for another full 30 days?
And if I read it right I always need a booked flight out of the country. So I should book everything in advance?

yes that is true. some places (like thailand) are fine with overstaying a bit.

a month on the other hand is a different story they won't look too kindly at that and you will get into a lot of trouble

I would assume it wouldn't be a problem, but I would definitely look that one up to see if there isnt a limit on tourist visas by flying in. I know by land it isn't a problem at all

actually, I do somewhat recall some places offering a service where they literally just take your passport, go to the border, get it stamped and bring it back to you by the end of the day so you don;t have to spend all day on the bus.

damn visa runs.. they will fill your passport quick!

You can look into education visas. If you find the right Muay Thai or Thai Language school I believe you can pay for slack attendance and still get the year or more. Only awkward thing is when the Thai government folk come knocking and you can't speak Thai and kick like a sissy after 9 months.

Goto an embassy or use a visa service and you'll get a 90 day tourist visa

If you overstay your visa it is not really a problem if you make it to the airport on your departure without having to show your passport to a police officer. The maximum fine is 20.000 Baht, or around 600 USD. If however the police finds out about your overstay, you may be put in the immigration detention center with 20 other guys sharing the same cell. There is no reason to break the law since getting visas is easy. you can get a 60 day tourist visa at your local embassy, and have it extended for extra 30 days inside thailand. if you need more than that you can ask your embassy for a double entry visa, which will allow you to leave the country and come back for extra 60+30 days or for a total of 180 days.
If your embassy only grants you a single entry visa, getting a new visa in the neighbouring counrties is just a bus/plane ride away.
