Ok, lets get on with it.
I did some testing with a PIN submit a week ago. Damn! that thing has high payout, but I only got 1 conversion after 165 clicks.
Still need to get postback to work to track conversions.
Today, moved on to a mobile install "Android Armor" I sent a little over 100 clicks over to the offer, and got 0 conversions.
I checked the Network side to see if there was a conversion, but there wasn't. It did register the clicks, so I don't know what's up. It looks like there might have been click loss as well.
This offer converts on install and activation, so here are my theories:
- Something is screwed up in my tracking/campaign setup and the user clicks are sent to a dead end.
- The user is installing but not activating the downloads
- The offer is burnt out, and it's not converting.
- There is something wrong with the traffic.
Next step:
- Test more offers
- Figure out postback conversion. I think got it right, but I'm not sure how to test this without a conversion.
- I probably should have pulled the plug on this campaign on 4xoffer, I let it get to 10xoffer.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
ok quick thoughts..
Get a recommended offer and traffic source from network..
1. Split test campaigns into wifi/carrier traffic
2. Have at least 4 or 5 banner angles per campaign
3. Test a lander per banner angle.
4. Test direct linking separate.
5. Take data, decide best angle and build a few variations and test more.
I'd say this is the minimum to getting some data to work with, I've seen people post on here to test with up to 10 banners to start with.. you should also do a small DL test, maybe wth best performing angle after you have data..

Tested 3 campaigns split wifi/carrier, and 2 banners per campaign. Got 2 conversions! Yes! Stacking them Pennies!!
The conversion tracking is definitely not working, my tracker didn't register the conversions.
I got my postback URL set as: http://www.xxx.com/abc/track.php?subid=#s2#
Checked with my AM, and this is how it suppose to be. So I'm not sure what is going on.
Right now, I need to get some landers done along with banners.
Speaking of which, I did test out a couple of coders on Odesk which was a complete disaster... LOL!!
One guy told me he could do it for an agreed price, came back to me 1.5hrs later and said he wanted more money because the animation will be extra. I pretty much showed him what I wanted, so there were no surprises. I ditched the guy, as I made sure in the beginning we agreed that I pay on completion. He wanted a few bucks for his time that he spent... LOL!
Second guy told me he could do it, and after a day later I asked him what he was up to. He sent me a link and it was pretty much the lander I wanted copied onto a different server. So WTF has he been doing all this time?!?.. I cancelled the job.
These two guys had the most jobs on Odesk, I don't know how they pulled that off.
Which led me to thinking that I should code my own damn landers!!.. I somehow have forgotten that I had been coding since I was 16 in C and assembler, not to mention my 4 year computer engineering degree. Despite not having done major coding for many years, coding some silly HTML/CSS/jQuery flashy landers shouldn't be out of my reach!
I was spending more time looking for the right coders and wasting time with them, where I could be doing it myself. I guess I was in love with the idea of being the "ideas guy", and let other people do the grunt work.
Next step:
- Put together some mobile landers and banner combo
- Split test offer when I get the campaigns setup.
- Get conversion tracking to work!
Spent some time today looking at code and landers I want to create. It looks like it's going to take some time to get the hang of this. Understanding code is one thing, but to put it together to work is another thing. I can spend my time to learn from scratch, but what I'm going to do is to have a programmer on call to do most of the heavy lifting, with me doing the small parts.
So back to odesk I go! Going to test out Ukrainian coder, paying abit more. Abit of a pain, because not being sure if they can deliver. But, once I find a good one, I can go back to them again and again.
Buddy of mine has a dedicated Filipino coder, that works in HIS timezone! Don't know what timezone you're in but that's pretty cool as there's no discrepancy or delays cause of time!
How complex do you need the lander? If it's something simple to test with at first, there are some gigs on fiverr for mobile landing pages. You'd probably only get a plain text type thing.. but it's a base to work from for a simple angle until you get converting..
To Dynamic's point... Like 98% of our landers are the most basic things you could ever think of, especially from a code stand point, under 100 lines of code.
Landers: get yourself a copy of Adobe Muse. It'll take most of the grunt-work out of putting together landers, and you can make things up in it really fast.
I've been hand-coding HTML since 1995, but I still use a graphical tool like Muse when I can. It's just faster.
Thanks for everyone who has contributed to my follow along.
Got myself a new coder who helped me put together my LP. My plan is to use him to do most of the heavy lifting, and I'll make small changes to test different elements as necessary.
LP came back good under 50kb in total and that hasn't been optimised yet. It's registering at 184ms in pingdom from Dallas. Nice! I think the offer page might be slower..lol!
Right now I got 4 campaigns and 4 banners waiting for approval. This will be 1 angle. I would like to get alot of the technical issues sorted out before I go crazy with different angles and campaigns.
Next step:
- Get conversion tracking working
- Start preparing for new angles, headlines, LP styles
