High levels of confusion regarding Affiliate and advertising network

Hi guys,

Can someone possibly clarify the difference between Affiliate and ad networking? Also, the difference between publishers and advertisers?

Any help will be appreciated!

I'm planning to go straight into mobile, however would it best to get a feel of website PPC before venturing into mobile? As it feels like I'm missing a few dots inbetween...

Ahoy!

Okay so an affiliate network, is where you sign up to run offers. An affiliate network, such as convert2media, ads4dough, adsimillis, w4, F5media, cpatrend, mundo media, neverblue etc you get the idea, carries 100's or 1000's of different offers in which you can get your own unique tracking link to run them.

An ad network, is a place where you purchase traffic to deliver to these links. If you're planning on running mobile, some ad networks are jumptap, mobfox, millenialmedia, airpush, leadbolt

Hope that clears it up for you man

Also, publisher and advertiser are quite broad terms (I don't like them!). Publisher typically means a website owner who is looking to monetise by placing ads. Affiliates are similar - we are 'publishers' that buy advertising space (hurr durr advertiser much?). Advertisers, as they are typically referred to, are the offer owners who are looking to have their product advertised by website owners, affiliates, etc.
