Is SEO the right choice for my website niche? (10)

Is SEO the right choice for my website niche?

Hi,

I'm at a point now where I'm not holding SEO as high of a priority as I use to. My website niche doesn't have a high search volume when it comes to my best primary keywords; so I feel SEO for my website is just not worth the time and money.

For example, on Adwords for an exact match on my primary keywords I'm only getting 500 average monthly searches. I then compare this to a more well known niche "inbound marketing" and this primary keyword is receiving 27,000+ average monthly searches. I know Adwords isn't 100% accurate in telling me what the exact search volume is but it's a good gauge .

Recently, after the Google "Penguin/Panda" algorithm updates my primary keywords dropped from being ranked around page 1 or 2 on Google to page 7+ now. However, even when I was at page 1 or 2; I wasn't really receiving much organic traffic from Google because of the low search volume of my niche.

I'm changing gears now and focusing on other verticals of traffic sources, and I'm seeing my website grow more through these channels than trying to rely on Google's organic searches to bring in good traffic.

I know SEO is important especially if you are targeting high volume keywords, but I just lost faith in SEO for my specific website niche. I just don't believe SEO is the best option for my website in bringing good traffic leads.

Thoughts? Am I right in thinking SEO isn't for every website? Or have I not found the right SEO agency to work with; which is a whole other topic because it is so hard to weed out the good from all the crappy SEO agencies out there?

Thank you!

SEO is just one aspect of an overall strategy. It isnt for all sites, but not all site owners have the same goals. As a long term strategy for an authority site, SEO is a crucial piece of the strategy, but the right SEO is just as important.

If you are doing pump and dump sites, then you dont need the same type of SEO as if you were building an authority site. You could very easily use some tools and spam to get ranked, make bank for a couple of months, get penalized and move on.

You have to outline your goals for this new site. Im not sure why you would have used an agency for a 500 month search keyword. When you say agency, what type of agency? What types of links? What was the price point for their services? That will tell us a lot about whether you are using the wrong SEO agencies.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, I would like to use SEO for a long term strategy for an authority site.

I agree with you that SEO is just one aspect of my overall strategy. I guess when I started with SEO I thought of it as this great way to bring in traffic, but I guess a lot of that depends on your niche and the keywords your targeting.

When starting out I just found an SEO agency on Freelancer.com; it wasn't much money monthly so I figured I would give it a shot. They did the typical methods that other SEO agencies would do; article submission, social bookmarking, directory submissions, etc. but I guess with the latest Google algorithms these methods are not held in high regard by Google anymore.

I'm at a point that I will definitely still keep my website's on-site SEO the way it should be, but I'm not going to push off-site SEO with an agency for such low volume search keywords. I'll still do my own blog posts on my website, but I'm just up in the air on paying money with an SEO agency for off-site SEO.

Thank you!

Please dont refer to anyone on freelance sites as "SEO agencies." Thanks. That is an insult to all of us in the SEO business.

Point taken! Didn't mean to offend anyone in the SEO business world...

I used these freelancers when I was first starting out then moved to an actual well-established SEO company that I came across after researching online, but the results were just not there; maybe because of my niche.

I would definitely work with an SEO business again, but the hardest thing for me is finding an experienced and trusting SEO business that knows what there are doing because there are a lot of companies out there that state they're an SEO business but just bring nothing to the table.

Bro... SEO is perfect for niche sites especially low volume long tail words. I make solid 6 fig income from that and minor ding from google in last update

In fact I would argue that it is easier to make money in those spaces than going head to head on high traffic keywords.

As has been said - you want to have SEO - but also have paid traffic to balance out your biz.

and here is the killer crush tip I will drop on you now.. we all know that Google wants us to be an Authority website right? check this out.

using Jetpack - look at incoming keywords... like "insanity workout good for bootcamp".

one of the problems you will see with SEO guys not ranking is their articles are crap and not long enough (1000 plus words)..

if you take the long tail. "insanity workout good for bootcamp" and set up in sentence or Question/Answer like this...

Questions from athletes in our gym.

Question: "Coach, is the insanity workout good to prepare me for bootcamp? "
Answer: Yes; the Insanity workout gets good reviews and we like to use it in our garage gym workouts. We have seen really good result lately using Insanity.

THat just took me 36 seconds to type. Instead of buying crappy links from India - or stuffing keywords in your tags... or posting comments in forums... You just posted a question and answer that puts you in an authority position (which Google loves) ---and--- you have the keywords you need in the sentence -- and your article gets longer (closer to or above 1000 words).. ---and ---- Google sees the new text and crawls your site.

answering questions also improves your bounce rate as more people see that your a real site and want to see other questions you have answered - especially if you have a relate article that answers that question. People clicking on the next article -- obviously improves bounce rate -- and over time -- you will have more sites linking to you as you are more of a resource now...instead of some B.S. site full of crap contents and links.

Do that once a day - spend 1 hour in between monitoring your PPC campaigns - and you will dominate the F#ck out of your SEO competition and make money every minute of the hour.

guaranteed $$

That's an interesting idea. Isn't that what yahoo answers does?

Yahoo answers are generic and crap (not answered properly).

We are talking about SEO for small niche not high traffic keywords.

So in that context you can add 100s of detailed micro niche questions and answers

The point is not to make your site a Q and A site competing with Yahoo

The point is to find good keywords and fuse them back into your text

All of which helps you site - especially small niche as no one else is doing it.

Ok, so you will have hundred of small pages answering specific questions targetting low competition keywords. For example, a dog training site, you will have a q/a page targetting dog flea treatments? All of that will bring traffic to your site.

yes; answering "dog flea treatment" questions would be great...

I just did that same exercise for one of my money sites ... took me about 40 minutes to add 25 questions.

It gives you a good break from checking stats on your paid campaigns.

what you will find is that your top hitter pages... will get more and more SEO keywords.. so much of your work will keep going back to those higher traffic pages of your own.

it sounds like a lot of work.. but its not.. and when you see how powerful it is... it becomes fun constructing questions and anwers.

as always - SEO is only 1 tool and definitely adding paid traffic to your better SEO optimized articles.
