As some of you may have read in my follow along, I'm currently having a stab at affiliate marketing on Facebook. I can certainly see why people warned me against starting out on FB, but in for a penny...
Which marketing tactics do you find working effectively on FB? Is it email capture / list marketing, direct linking, long sales letters, email submits, rebills with free trials?
From what I understand, people on FB are not in a buying mood, so you either have to get them in that mood using a clever sales letter or capture their email address on the go.
I've tried short landers and email submits (poll lander), but have not managed to go into positive ROI. The email submits simply don't pay well enough to make it work (more PPV friendly) and the short click-through lander didn't qualify my traffic to a sufficient event.
Which tactics do you believe in and why?

They are, and aren't, in a buying mood. They're just people. At 1-10c a click if you have decent images, there can be no complaints... It can never match Search for conversion, but at a tenth of the CPC, you can expect a tenth of the CVR.
If you target right you can always reach your desired audience. Why don't you subscribe to SocialAdNinja and see what's working? Ads running more than X days must be running in profit, especially if they're affiliates. Find affiliates by searching for .info domains (real companies don't use these domains).
You need to be smarter, and you need to TEST. That is most important. Test for yourself, because we can't give you the tactics.
Remember that when you test two things, one will ALWAYS be better. It has to be. Make it a high-contrast test...
Btw it can take a while before it all clicks. Don't expect instant results. Spend money and test. Answer 1-2 questions every day by launching a NEW campaign. By the end of the month, up to 60 questions will have been answered. That info will be your ticket.

You might want to search the forum for his posts to get the idea of what you should be doing.
I test everything that I want to have answered.
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups or something like that.
Don't anybody's word as well.. and with that, i mean anybody. Take their suggestions and test. Unfortunately.. you can't be testing with $5 budgets.
Testing costs money and time but always pays of in the long run. You won't make it if you are impatient and have a short view.
Specifically, I'd recommend having a read through some of the Facebook follow-alongs - there's gold in there.
The platform has changed since some of the most famous follow-alongs, but the principles are still very sound.
Zeno, scito, mjdub etc. (so many more), all the follow-alongs especially... grab some coffee.
