Mobile Optimization Question

OK, so I am running an app-install campaign. I am taking placements from my "test" campaign and moving it either to a "profit" campaign or a "lower bid" campaign or just blacklisting the placement if its not converting. My question is...

After I move the placement from the "test" campaign to another campaign...Should i blacklist the placement in the "test" campaign or should I be bidding on the same placement from both campaigns? Thanks!!!

How are you defining a 'placement'? Site ID, format, creative, combination of everything?

I'm assuming you're testing site IDs? If that's the case how are you configuring the tests? I.e. are you testing new ads across unproven IDs, existing (proven) ads etc?

I've found this works perfect for RON testing. I'm sure some people currently use it. I'll try and keep it short and sweet cause I know you guy's are busy testing campaigns as you should be!

Now this is assuming you already have a decent budget for testing, maybe $1k-3k or more (more preferably).

- start with 1 campaign , I normally will test "hot" offers provided by my AM's, and typically run all my mobile traffic as broad as possible at first or even on RON if they network allows it.

- once you got some data , maybe around 300-400 clicks/impressions per target/keyword/site make 3 separate campaigns

- 1 campaign should be your "profit campaign" (Assuming you have a few profitable targets), 1 "test pool", and 1 "lower bid" campaign.

- So what your going to do now is take all your profitable targets and place them in your "profit campaign" and let it run. Your going to take the converting id's/keywords/targets off both "lower bid", and "test pool" campaigns.

- If you see that some targets maybe profitable at lower bids (simple math should let you know) add them into the "low er Bid" campaign, and remove them from the "test pool".

so the purpose of the "test pool" campaign is to allow an even spend on each targets which let's each target gain enough exposure to be able to see if it's profitable or not, if you see a target that's profitable or has a chance you take it out, and place it to it's corresponding campaign. make sense? and if a target is completely not profitable you cut it from all campaigns.

Hope this makes sense let me know if you guy's have any questions
According to this smart guy, he takes them off. So only bidding for that specific placement in just one of your campaigns.

I would blacklist it on the current campaign.

Cloning the campaign ( depending on the platform ) , doesn't mean you will get the same exact traffic.

Thanks! I realized this is the best option to go with so the new untested placements get some traffic too.

If the app is positive in your test campaign I'd leave it running there too...

You would be competing against yourself mate

Says who? A Newb or a guy who sends hundreds of thousands of clicks a day and knows his shit?

Its a little bit more complicated than you think to simply conclude that you'd be competing against yourself.

If you're test campaign is profitable I wouldn't necessarily block the site id when creating a separate campaign. Sometimes having two campaigns targeting the same platform yields you more traffic then when you have only one running. It really depends on the platform and how the system allocates inventory. Of course split test for yourself to see how it works for your traffic source.

I wish every network was perfect and bidding was a true competition and system, unfortunately I've gamed way to many networks to think it truly is a fair action that takes place. I'm hoping as Mobile RTB become more prevalent than this will no longer me an opportunity to arbitrage.
