Hi there. Some of you will have noticed the changes on google with the introduction of the black menu bar.
Most by the end of today will probably hear about Google+.
More videos here:

What do you think? Will it challenge Facebook?
And what does it mean for us marketers?
Not much in the short term apart from some cool new toys to play with
Over time, It will bring Google Adwords closer to facebook. Google+ includes Sparks, which is basically the same as facebook Interests + Fanpages, and Google +1 which is like FB Likes.
Google really needs to do something never done before that everyone craves to really win over facebook user's.
Google+ is not that.
Hmmmm.....well not quite sure.....seems like it has its merits.....I just see it getting abused somehow....
I also don't really think google should be going this route....its angle is search making the internet easier to navigate etc.......social .....is well social.....
google = work
fb = play
social shouldn't be search and search shouldn't be social.....
if they really wanted to do that they should come up with a new way to truley index the social pulse of society....almost predictive in nature....that would be groundbreaking....
not just "trends" as that's pretty much just what is being "searched"....which is a factor...BUT not the whole equation......
they have the ability to manipulate HUGE volumes of data.....sooooo
why not mix in twitter feeds, facebook wall posts (that would piss facebook off to no end), live news, and even images and video footage....into one large pulse of greater humanity....
just my 16.84 Rp.
i think it will ultimately bomb but not quite as useless as google wave. it will make recommendations through youtube and google reader more convenient. maybe down the road we can choose circle names to advertise to much like we choose keywords on facebook "epic bros" "sigma ep house" "University of Texas beer bong tournament" , etc.
EDIT: yea what polar bacon said is pretty much on the money. that'd be a game changer.
I dont understand the value of this at all - sites your gmail contacts +1 are considered more relevant to your interests? I dont know about you guys but the vast majority of my gmail contacts are from one-time business transactions, website newsletters and other crap unrelated to my personal life. If I want to know what my friends think and recommend I'll use facebook. I think it is going to bomb hard.
yeah, i think the concept is if a friend likes it, it will be a more "relevant" opinion then say a review site or celebrity endorsement. how it will play out of course is a different story.
i personally will not vote on ads though...
i think one of the noticeable things though about google+ and the changes to all other google products is the move away from "hurting your eyes" design of bright colours and a move to a much more calm layout and design.
on the other hand i can see that with this new product and launch they are trying to become more "human" and move away from the image of 'geeky phd students". Like by introducing some "fun" in the interface animations.
in the past google has been a lot about designing products in a vacuum without listening to users and what their needs really are....google wave, google buzz, etc etc.
Their video chat tool looks great fun though - and although I think facebook will be ok, there is a considerable risk on video conference providers once google+ gets hooked up to google apps.
ps. here is a really good writeup from a source that I regard highly.

Key differences with facebook:
* Fb is about sharing with everyone, whereas g+ is about sharing with very select groups only (circles) and no one else
* Its way easier and more fun to group people into circles then it is to setup lists in facebook
* Circles are not open - so other people can not see which circles you belong to
Google has lost its way... they are desperately trying everything to keep growing but they need to wake up.
What used to work well for Google was the clean interface. Now they are throwing so much crap at you that its just getting diluted. Top bar, side bar, instant search, +1
WTF - who cares about +1. Do they really think it won;t get abused? I just bought 100 "+1's" for one of my website (cost me 20 bucks).
Eat that Google!
Ok. Ive been using Google + now for about a day, and sofar I am reasonably impressed.
* Circles are a god sent
* There is more engagement then on Twitter
* Less engagement then on Facebook as its less personal
* Sparks are useless
* Interface is cool and very responsive
* Like the fact that I can edit posts afterwards
Here's my google+ invite to STM members to connect and join my STM circle.

Google...your time is up.
Yet another desperate attempt to get a piece of the pie.
Anyone hear of Orkut?
How about Buzz?
RIP Google +1.
Note to Google: Why don't you idiots try and come up with something original.
I want Google to compete, there needs to be competition to Facebook...it's crazy how much power they have.
Yeah i agree with mr. green. Plus i'm looking forward to the advertising potential that will come with google+.
With Adwords behavioural targeting, things could really get interesting.
Bet you that all G+ users are already being profiled each time they refresh their feed.
And imaging this:
I hope google will introduce the option to target ads based on circles, ie users that have your fans in circles
