I know Google made a change that reduces the rich snippet visibility 10-15% in the SERPS. I was one of those websites which got 'hit'.
When they made the change I lost authorship mainly on posts but still had visible star ratings on some posts. After 1-2 weeks I got my authorship back but then lost all my star ratings.
Now I've lost all my star ratings and my authorship. I'm not doing anything 'black-hat' it's a decent site with 50 - 1000-3000 word blog posts all unique and painfully written. It's a PR4 website with few backlinks.
I'm not sure if I can do anything about it but worth a try asking here. Anyone have any ideas?
I lose around 30-40% of my traffic without these rich snippets and of course that hits my revenue.
I guess I'll be allowed my star ratings backs in AdWords no questions asked - thanks Google
Aw, man, that sucks! If I lost my authorship on posts on some of my sites I would be ... unhappy. To put it mildly.
I don't have any solid knowledge of solutions, I'm afraid. Anyone?
I don't think I can do anything really. I have a few websites and what doesn't make sense from what I've read is that Google will only authorship/rich snippets for the more powerful websites..
My most powerful website in terms of PR/ SEO metrics has been wiped out for rich snippets i.e my biggest money maker.
Yet my other websites which are PR 1 5 pages of crap still have star ratings and another PR 2 6 pages still shows my ugly face. Go figure..
Guess I'll just have to take it from Google. Meh.
Were you using the same G+ account for all your sites? How many niches are you writing for under that account?
If you are making some decent coin with these sites, I would look at creating a couple of NEW sites for each niche. Reverse engineer the backlinks for the top sites and get to work. At the same time see if you can get your current ones back. If not, you STILL move forward. If you can make money with the current sites, you can also do it with new ones.
Since the writing the content was painful, outsource the written content 50 x $7-10= $350-$500.
I'm not in SEO at the moment but will eventually get back in the game. I'm currently monitoring a couple of niches and tracking their keywords and have a good idea how to rank and compete with the sites ranking at the top and I'm talking about 15 $$$$/day keywords.
Have you looked at this? http://googlewebmastercentral.blogsp...-advanced.html
Its really hard to analyze what happened without seeing the site. Until you find out what went wrong, creating new sites the same way will end up with the same results. I can take a look if you like. It could be something as simple as frequency of posts or something more frightening as a niche purge.
Even with that, there may be a higher degree of needed metrics needed to re-acquire authorship (yes, some niches have different thresholds for various metrics). A competitive analysis of sites within your niche that both have and dont have snippets should tell you what you need to do moving forward. I would look at everything from link profile to age to individual author G+ accounts and their linked sites - go about it in a completely forensic manner. Figure that out, then you can create 10 sites in that niche and duplicate your snippet success.
For taking action, I'm going to PM you one of the keywords and site. You'll be surprised about the backlinks
