Running contests to generate leads?
After picking the brains of some of the best affiliates here I want contests to be part of my lead generation strategies. I'll start with simple stuff like win this or that and go from there. I have a few questions:
1. What are some good resources/sites to read up on contests before running one?
2. Are there any templates for the legal jargon?
3. Is it perfectly legal to set a minimum threshold on entries? For example, if I don't get at least 1,000 entries by the deadline, I don't have to pick a winner and will simply extend it another month or even cancel it. This is to hedge against the possibility of investing thousands of dollars in the prize money and only getting a handful of entries.
So most importantly it has to be bullerproof from a legal standpoint.
If you have any other thoughts or experience with contests please share.
Thanks!

Possibly unhelpful answer, this one, but I'd definitely recommend a chat with a lawyer. It should only cost a few hundred dollars, if that, to get answers to your legal questions, and if you pick the right one they may even have boilerplate contest templates you can use.
This also sounds like one of those questions which is going to vary wildly by legal juristiction. EU consumer protection tends to be a lot stronger than US-equivalent, for example.

Thank you I am considering a chat with a lawyer and basically also finding very reputable sites running contests and taking their disclaimer and using it as a base for mine since theirs has got to be bulletproof.
I was wondering if anyone here had actually gone through the process themselves and had some hands-on experience with contests they might like to share.

Which market(s) are you running in? I've got a fair amount of experience, we've got a product specifically for online comps (brands).
Anything english speaking you'll need permits if you want any respectable traffic source to let you run it (i.e. facebook). Just google comp permits and ring around. All of them (have to) have legal backgrounds, they deal with this stuff day in day out. They'd be the best to talk to initially and can probably answer most top line questions.
