Setting up my first VPN. Please help. Completely lost

Just bought a VPS from beyondhosting based on what I read on here.

I got these questions from them which I have 0 clue how to answer.
1. Who is your current domain registrar and are you using their DNS or that of a current hosting provider's?

2. If your wishing to use your server for your DNS then please include your login information for the current domain registrar in this ticket. Optionally, we can guide you through the nameserver & host setup if you do not wish to release your login details.

3. Do you have an existing cPanel hosting account that you would like to import?

4. Do you have an existing installation you would like us to import data from?

5. Please verify the domain you wish to use for this setup

Can someone help me decipher all this? Thanks.

1. I guess you don't have a domain. Go to namecheap.com or something and get one for your new adventure.

2. Your choice. Who do you want to use for your DNS.

3. No

4. No

5. Get a domain first.

Thanks a lot. I got them to set up the server. In another thread I read about setting up hardcore security in it but do I need it now that I am just a newb? I tihnk by the time this is over I will not only have my first campaign but be a server admin as well. :P

Go to Namecheap and pick up a domain. You'll want to modify the A record so it points to the IP address that BeyondHosting gave you. Domain names are really IP addresses, but it's hard to remember that your favorite website is located at 1.2.3.4.11 or whatever, so instead, exampledomain.com is the human readable form. The A record of your domain is where you put this IP address. Make sense?

I wouldnt worry about security just yet.

The more you learn, the better though

Hi everyone thanks for the replies. I just reliazed something. If I am going to use Voluum as my tracking software which is not self hosted do I even need a server? I would for landing pages and banners correct? I am going to be doing mobile traffic so am I headed in the right direction?

Btw hd2010 thanks a ton for that link. Cleared a lot of things up.

Yes, you'll still need a server for landing pages, not for banners (which are generally hosted on your traffic source).
