Driving email subscribes?
I have a newsletter and I want to come up with creative ways for getting subscribers. People love the newsletter and the content, it's like a newsletter about the latest sports cars for example. But I can't really compete for subscribes on paid traffic sources since affiliates can afford to bid high because they're getting a payout.
I want to pick the minds of all you bright lot.
1. What would you do to drive subscribes at a very low cost? I'm looking for US subscribers only because the content is geared toward the American market.
2. Does anyone have campaigns that are generating a lot of emails addresses anyway and wants to work out a way to put my newsletter in front of those people? If so, talk to me. Let me know how we can work together on this.

I had a few methods that I've exhausted, like asking friends with big lists to promote my stuff. I need some diabolical ideas from the brilliant minds here.

If you want quality, engaged, and genuine subscribers, the cheapest way is creating a viral loop.
1. Get as many of your subscribers to follow you on FB, twitter, Pinterest, etc.
2. Start really upping the virality of your articles (and in particular your headlines) on both the website and emails. Study and adapt the methods used by Buzzfeed, Upworthy and other viral content players http://prospect.org/article/insert-h...ve-clicks-here or http://www.quora.com/Upworthy-1/What...-its-headlines
3. Use FB, twitter and Pinterest to broadcast these headlines and links to followers
4. Make sure that all articles, emails have share buttons. Try to make social sharing REALLY easy (e.g. enlarge the clickable area of share buttons, highlight them etc.
5. Create some sort of incentivised call to action for people once they are on your site to give you your email addresses. This needs to be very closely related to the focus of your website/newsletter and needs to match the demographic. You will need to think very hard on this and you will probably need to invest some money into this. You want something which is attractive enough for your audience, that provides real value to them, but which will cost you very little ongoing costs. I can probably give you 1-2 ideas to start if you PM me.

Thanks, I actually have a whole social media strategy planned out along the lines of what you said. I'm trying to see if anyone has any other ideas I haven't thought of. For example, I know a lot of people generate thousands of email leads for their campaigns every day and might be able to extract even more value out of the leads if they are willing to work with me.
