Hey guys,
Intro:
After my latest facebook dating follow along I was a bit hesitating to create a new follow along in a different niche because I dont know if this is right for me but after some initial testing I want to make it work.
Tube:
Tube8
Initial budget:
$ 150 (I have $ 33 left)
How I've spent it:
I've created different type of banners, tried to get a high CTR and tried to reverse engineer the existing campaigns on the pornhub network. Also I tried to find out if I can have fun promoting adult offers and if I want to continue at all or not. Since I'm starting this thread I will put my full energy to turn it from a loss to profitable campaigns.
Focus on tube8 first:
I picked a niched offer and tube8 because it seems it's a low price tube site and good enough to learn the basics. In order to create the ads I was surfing porn an entire day and collected whatever I've found. Let's call it I try to feel, wank, watch porn like a regular visitor would do. Always try to step into the shoes of a potential customer, right?
Tube8 Statistics:
Spent: $ 23
Clicks: 207
CPC: $ 0.1111112
Conversions & Landing page statistics:
Conversions: 5 à $ 2.50 (there are some networks which pay for the same offer $ 3... I'd be close to profit then)
Revenue: $ 12.50
Profit/Loss: $ -10.5
CPV Lab (Ads):

My current issues:
1. I'm getting like 15 - 30 clicks per day. About 33,278 impressions. (I'm the highest "bidder")
2. My landing pages just suck and I cannot really optimize on that minimum amount of clicks. FB has sent me usually 100 - 200 clicks per day and I was able to optimize effectively
- I'm using the typical "Rules" landing page in the grey color scheme and a white/red one.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Right off the bat, your stats are not of significance for any point. You got between 1-5 LP clicks to offer per creative, even just 15 max clicks per creative. That's nothing to take ANYthing from.
Try a different placement where you can spend more, find more volume in it. Not worth bothering with 30 clicks per day. Generally spoken, I must admit with a $150 budget it's quite hard to make it work, the very max you can expect is seeing some slight trend, not even starting about thinking to optimize. For adult, just to get a first idea, you normally need to spend at least 100-150$ on a fresh campaign (assuming starting from the scratch).
Rule of thumb: 2-3x offer payout spent per creative & lp combination before making any decisions (per offer).
Hey fjk87,
Thanks for your reply. My goal was only to find out how traffic junky works and to maybe see a slight trend. I know I cannot make it work with only $ 150 budget. But as said, my main issue that I don't get clicks.
So I need to find another site & placement as you've written ;-) But I know that the stats are far away from being significant...
I'd say that campaign shows really good promise though - you only had a handful of clicks and got a handful of conversions. So I would definitely look for a) other traffic sources, or b) just try diff. placement/sites. There should be something out there that has enough traffic in your country.
"In order to create the ads I was surfing porn an entire day and collected whatever I've found. Let's call it I try to feel, wank, watch porn like a regular visitor would do. Always try to step into the shoes of a potential customer, right?"
LOL. Right.
I didnt read the last post.
What conversion & LP CTR rate should I aim for? Don't tell me 100% :P Thanks guys!
LP CTR varies on the type of Lander, and the traffic source. But I generally am worried when CTR is below 20% or 25%
Hey bruzzy, if you only have $33 left adult isn't your greatest option, in fact you're going to struggle in affiliate marketing with that or is that just for this 1 campaign?
Hey guys,
About my budget first because I've seen you don't seem to understand my point of view:
I'm not having $ 33 only left. I funded the account again with $ 100 and after yesterday I have $ 54 left. The initial budget was only to see how TJ & adult works. I usually add funds in a controlled way so I can at the end of day say "I've spent $ 30 but learned A, B & C. Why is C better than A & B? How can I improve A & B, what would make C even better?". In fact I do have a lot more money but not enough to just spend it without thinking about it. I'd be broke within 3 days easily
Results of today (until now):
Campaign 1:
Cost: $ 12.72
Revenue: $ 10.00
Profit/Loss: $ -2.72
Campaign 2:
Cost: $ 12.82
Revenue: $ 20.00
Profit/Loss: $ 7.18
It's in no way statistical relevant... it's in the testing phase.
Hey guys,
Sorry for no updates. The country I was targeting was too far away from where the server location is. A landing page took 1s - 3s to load fully. I was surprised that I was slightly in loss only.
Anyway, I stopped everything, picked a new country which is closer to the server location and restarted.
I got already 6 conversions within a short period of time (4 hours), unoptimized and I'm already in profit. The bid prices are damn high but every 5 - 8th LP CTR leads to a conversion until now.
I'm happy to wait and to see how it does continue. I didnt believe landing page speed makes such a big difference...
Nice one!
Yeah, landing speed is HUGE. People like Google and Amazon have done studies on its effects on conversion, and they're waaaay greater than you'd expect.
How are you guys measuring pagespeed? With this tool?
http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/
@kamaleon - Yeah, that's one of the ones I tend to use a lot. Uptrends is good too - http://www.uptrends.com/html/en/free...-software.html
Hey guys
I have an update of the past couple of days:

My best LP conversion rate is: 4.43% (after about 300 - 600 clicks, the best has 2,500 clicks)
Offer payout is: 3.75
I have currently no idea how to optimize the landing page... I'm using the typical 3 question landing page and I find 4.43% Conversion Rate very weak. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I think these are normal conversion rates, or at least this is what finch has, but check this for more info
http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...y-Don-t-Matter
If your lander has a picture start there.. changing the pic can make a huge difference. I learned that picking an image that appeals to a vast demographic works best. For example milf (face looks mature) with tight looking body and big tits
I have here an update:

@kamaleon: Thanks for the input. Read it
@iamattila: Hey thanks, good idea. I tested it and it improved my landing page performance. But after a while they all drop down to %4 LP CR.
I have collected a lot of data. I will analyse now why I was profitable and why I wasnt in certain times. When I think I got it down I will start the next round.
You are targeting an english country, right? I can never get to that daily spending in a non-english country...
I cannot make UK work on TrafficJunky. if I spent $ 20 then I'm earning $15 back, when I spend $ 100 then I'm earning $ 85.
I stopped the campaign and moved to switzerland. I'll let you know how its going.
Hey fjk87
I'm reading a lot of follow along & general threads now, I will write everything down what I did wrong and what I could optimize. I will update this thread once I have more information.
Thanks for being harsh & honestly. Helps a lot more in my case
Hey guys
I really suck at writing these follow along posts. Sorry for that.
In the last couple of days I was testing, testing, testing and trying out things what nobody seems to do. I was again surfing porn the entire day and taking notes, I was analyzing the ads and the landing pages. I've written quite a bit of strategies down and talked to a few guys.
I've also learned some things, like: big images are nice and cool but you boost your overall conversion rate if you "fuck" the visitor's mind, too. Additionally I was copying all the big campaigns out there and it was a funny experience that none of these funnels worked for me. After that time I realized that I need to do what nobody does. Once again, fap time and then suddenly there came a big realization... YOU ARE STILL DOING WHAT EVERYBODY ELSE DOES.
Do you know that experience? Do you see a hot girl and you want to approach her, but you're thinking about some fancy pickup lines and shit... after some time you go to approach her finally with your exclusive pickup line, she has never heard of. You feel a bit confident and tell her the pickup line but she answers with the words "FUCK YOU!". Ooouuch... "Baby you hurt ma feelers!" You did some research and found out that lot of guys have tried the exact same pickup line thousands of times. I had the same feeling when I realized that I'm actually doing what everyone does... Lesson learned.
Ok I want to give here a quick snapshot of my campaigns (today):
Campaign #1:
Revenue: $ 15
Cost: $ 3.15
Profit: $ 11.5
Avg CR: 11.11 %
Campaign #2:
Revenue: $ 27.50
Cost: $ 12.36
Profit: $ 15.14
Avg CR: 8.33 %
Total profit of: $ 26.64. My first goal is to make it somehow work until end of january 14 and I achieved that goal (yeah baby yeah!!!) I am creating new campaigns based on my system and lets see if I soon have a new profitable campaign... I did some initial tests and it was just producing cost and no profit at all but I'm ready to convert it into a winning campaign.
PS: My affiliate manager (his nick here: jayelvee) has helped me a lot and has given me hot offers which are converting well. I recommend Oasis Ads Media. his skype username is matthewtopa & email: matt@oasisam.com
Did you just come up with your own angles/ads/LPs all brand new?
Nice work!
And EXCELLENT approach. You're using your spying in the right way, for sure - don't copy, innovate!
Looking forward to seeing where you go from here!
Hey thanks for the feedback
I was adding two campaigns yesterday and was losing obviously (again). The traffic flood was great so I was able to optimize some parts and I'm having up to now 3 campaigns. Let's see if they're somewhat stable or if I did cut the ads too early.
Overall snapshot of the profit is $ 10 though (today). If every second campaign is going to be a winning campaign then I'm happy. The current campaign has an ad conversion rate of 16% - 19% (but it will probably go down over time).
But it's okay to "lose" while buying data. i've been playing a lot of strategy games and when you're having like 3 campaigns only then you're taking a "big loss" (reinvesting the profits for testing again). When I will have 10 campaigns then I will not notice it anymore... After this campaign is profitable I will probably select other countries OR offers for diversification. If the advertiser decides to kill me then I'm back to square 1... and I dont want this to happen anymore. What do you think guys?
See you tomorrow, thanks for reading.
Hi swissfactor, it's great to see your progress with your campaigns! Keep it up! If you ever need any of us here at TJ to take a look at your campaigns to see if we can provide any tips or advice, please do not hesitate to contact us or send us a pm!
Cheers,
Jen
Also for rapid lp testing, if you come up with a unique angle or ad, simply make that idea 1 image in photoshop and test it out. If it works, make it into html/css, throw in some geoip queries, and java countdown scripts whatever..
The point is you can move faster than everyone else by just throwing up an image lander to see if it works and get results pretty quickly. Right now my best lander is a 320x500px image I made in photoshop. It's outperforming 4 other html landers.
edit: yes mobile
Thanks for your feedbacks.
All of my campaigns weren't profitable anymore after 2 days. I'm still trying to figure out what has happened. This happens to me nearly always.... Once they're working and then I cut the ads that aren't performing well and just suddenly nothing seems to work anymore.
Is it that your CVR drops like a stone, or something else?
Hey guys,
I've been doing some tests the past 5 days. I don't understand whats going on and what I'm doing wrong. I'd appreciate it if someone could give me some pointers and advices. Thanks.
Initially I had follow setup:
TrafficJunky (Tracker: CPVLab):
freq cap: 3 per 24/h
Placement: YouPorn, NTV B (Youporn is the only site well known in CH)
9 ads
3 landing pages
2 offers (payout $ 5.50 & 6.50)
Campaign:
Country: CH
Bid: $0.610
I let these first ads run for 1.5 days and then killed the really bad CTR ads. The range was then from 0.28 to 0.38 CTR. (Disabled everything below 0.23) Then I just let everything run.
After 450 clicks I've noticed a tendency on the landing page results. 2 landing pages were better than the third one. I therefore have cut the 3rd landing page. and let continue run everything.
The last step was disabling all the ads that were not profiting. I had 2 only left and then instead of my campaign going profitable everything crashed and I was again in the loss time.
My Landing page conversion rates were (in the end):
1) 4.90 % (143 clicks)
2) 3.50 % (143 clicks)
My ad conversion rate were (of the two last one... the other didnt convert or were having a terrible CTR):
1) 4.65 %
2) 3.69 %
These two ads were some of the best regarding CTR. Having only 2 ads enabled the CTR dropped from 0.28 - 0.30 % to 0.196 %.
My stats for the past 2 days (were my campaigns were optimized the best):
Cost: $ 75
Revenue: $ 33
On sunday my revenue was $51.50 and it has cost me: $ 38 - My Campaign ctr was 0.24% (of all ads and I even had unprofitable ads).
I hope I could give a snapshot of my current situation. If you need more data to help me then please tell me and I will do my best to provide the information. Thanks for your suggestions & help.

Weekends typically are better days for adult marketing, you have to keep your spend up to keep your data level. Sometimes campaigns literally just do crash, most adult marketers are running similar content you gotta keep it fresh. It might also be just a down day for the offer, sometimes advertisers could be split testing something new on their page and it can effect the conversion rates.
How is the data coming along these past few days, anything noticeably different, or time to add new content and keep optimising?
Hey maynzie
I did some tests. the funny part is
day 1 to 3: ads 1, 2, 3 are profitable
day 4 to 5: ad 1, 2 are really bad but ad 3 & 4 are looking better
day 6 to 8 (starting next week): ad 4 isnt working but ad 2 is looking good again.
I was really spending $ 200 and not optimizing anything at all, after that $ 200 I cut the really bad landers & ads then I added another $ 100. I let it run and killed another bad ads. By this time you can see that I was cutting but leaft running 1, 2 & 3. Then the next day - when everything was "optimized" - nothing worked again and surprisingly I didnt seem to learn anything.
I'm eager to learn but I dont feel comfortable spending like $ 500 just to see that I've learned "nothing". I dont want to complain or whine but my possible solutions are:
1) Maybe TJ is too competitive for me now, maybe I should start on exo?
2) Maybe Adult is just for guys who can afford to spend $ 500 per day then it would be wise to switch to POF
3) Maybe something else...
The point is... I've ripped and i've created my own stuff and tweaked, optimized, got a better CR (which dropped after 5 days etc.). I've never crashed that hard... maybe I'm comparing the wrong things but on POF & FB I always could see a tendency where it does go based upon my improvements. When doing adult just every day is different ;-)
Thanks for your suggestions.
PS: Overall spent on TJ is over $ 1,700,00 (first january to now) so I really tried my best but I dont know whats the issue. ;-)
Bump :P
Hmm - why did you need to spend $200 to get enough data to cut? I'm sure there's a good reason, just trying to get my head inside this problem!
What are the payouts of the offers you're running?
Hey caurmen
Thanks for your post. There are several reasons for this, the main reason is to get "enough" sample data. I mean I have 3 landers, 8 ads and had 2 offers previously. The payout is $ 3.75 & $ 4. The $ 3.75 converted better than $ 4.
I tend to cut too early and do premature optimization (which is the root of the evil) and therefore I just spent $ 200 and did nearly nothing unless the ads CTR was really really terrible.
Hmm, sounds to me like you probably got far too much sample data there!
Assuming you're not treating the entire thing as a full multivariate test (and the usual approach is to treat each step of the funnel separately from a statistical point of view), you should be able to cut ads very quickly indeed: even assuming you were cutting solely on ROI, 8 ads should only need about 16x payout (so about $60) to test all of them completely. Likewise, by $100 spend or so you're likely to be seeing enough conversions to start figuring out which LP converts better, particularly if you're using a Bayesian split-test calculator.
I'd recommend getting much more ruthless about your cuts to minimise spend - there's statistical significance (which is very good) and then there's buying more data than you need to
Hope that helps a bit!
Hey Caurmen
Thanks for your answer. Good input. I will cut more roughless now and instead upload more ads once the previous set starts to burn out.
Oops... I did it again:
Stats of yesterday:
Spent: $ 40.73
Rev.: $ 44.00
Todo:
1. Use the bayesian split-test calculator
2. Cut more ads & add more ads (dont waste too much money on them)
3. Continue working hard
Done:
I've identified that my banner ctr is my weak part. I uploaded some baseline banners :P to see whats hopefully to possibly find out how i can improve my landers.
