Monetizing a list of people that purchased my product

ok so here is the deal I have a list of over 30,000 people that purchased software from me the software was a one time purchase with free updates.

I am completely new to email marketing so I have no idea how to make this work

I was thinking about becoming an affiliate of a competitor whos software is slightly different and just blasting out an email pitch in short basicley saying this is our sister company and hyping up their software

do you guys think something like this would work ? or do you have any better ideas ?

The answer: try it out.

Try it with 3,000 and see what happens.

Although you should not lie about it being a sister company. Just recommend it and play up the benefits.

First thing to do is probably to send out some emails with no sales content at all - just helpful tips and advice for people who have bought your software. That'll massively reduce the number of spam reports and unsubscribes you get when you start selling to the list, particularly if you haven't mailed it for a while.

After that, have a think about what other software or information they'd need to go with it. Then look up some affiliate programs for either of those things, find a product that's genuinely good, and promote that to them in an email. (As cmdeal says, you might want to test it on part of your list first to see if they hate it!)

Then send them some more free info, then another offer, and so on.

If you have never done ANY email marketing, at the very least read this

http://blog.kissmetrics.com/the-emai...rability-code/

and run your initial email through this

http://www.mail-tester.com/

before you send out your first test mailshot.

write up an email campaign based on the product you're promoting... almost like a launch or TV series.

each email serves a different purpose.

check out frank kerns mass control.... andre chaperon's autoresponder madness.... product launch formula.

all are great courses (i'm a bit biased twards franks course cuz i designed the logo/branding/graphics for it.)

I'd stick with caurmen's recomendation.
Don't just go and try to sell sell sell.

If you have a software for an specific niche, then send them 1-2 recommendations on how to use it or to get the most out of it for free, and then 1 sale offer of anything related (event though I would think twice before promoting my competition).
Is there any software or anything related that can be purchased to maximize the use of the software you sold? If so, you should be an affiliate for that.

I've been doing that for 2 years and it works, as long as it's related to the niche. I just don't try to sell directly by email that much. I make great articles with content related to their niche, and t he software I use in the article is instantly sold because they want it.

I guess the question for me is why would they want to buy a piece of software that is only slightly different when they have already bought yours?
