Hello!
So here it goes people my first campaign EVER in affiliate marketing in ANY verticle... This should be interesting. Going to be a chicken with my head cut off for a little bit but I followed some guides and sorta know what I'm doing here.
Tools:
Traffic source: TJ
Budget: $1700
Landing pages: abdobe muse
Banner creation: photoshop
Tracking: Prospa
Today I'm working on getting all my banners and landers setup, and I'll be running the campaign today so tomorrow I should have some stats to show ya guys. I'll try to be as detailed as possible and am just going try to throw myself through this and force myself to learn because reading stuff isn't going to get me anywhere.
Wish me luck peeps!
Good luck, will watching you closely!
Yep, definitely be as careful as you can with your budget, adult could rip through it. Start with a european country, one of the smaller ones like sweden/norway and maybe test out on an ipad spot first, don't jump straight into a big countries video placements, you will roar through it too fast.
Keep us updated with how you plan to start, looking forward to it mate!
Also definitely looking forward to this one. If you hit ANY problems or questions, please do ask 'em: there's no such thing as a stupid question.
good luck! subscribed!
Hey guys sorry I've been so inactive, was a big transition going from break back into school and I also came down with the flu in between there. I definitely underestimated how long it would take to make banners and landers, especially when you have no clue what your doing, but I now have 10 banners and 2 landing pages I want to test for starters just to get a feel how all of this works.
I'm in the process of trying to setup a campaign right now on STM's tracker. I followed guides on how to do this but am stuck at the landing page part. I generated my php code
<?php
// -------------------------------------------------------------------
//
// Tracking202 PHP Redirection, created on Sat Jan, 2014
//
// This PHP code is to be used for the following landing page.
// http://www.rd1123.com/landers/
//
// -------------------------------------------------------------------
global $clickThruLink;
$clickThruLink = 'http://www.rd1123.com/tracking202/redirect/lp.php?lpip=925&'.$_SERVER['QUERY_STRING'];
/*Sample: <a href="<?php echo $clickThruLink ?>">Join!</a>*/
?>
and posted it in the <head> section of my HTML page
One of the landers i'm using is the google map one, posted here on STM forums.
<div class="submit">
<a href="go.php" class="btn">I Agree</a>
</div>
This is what i'm trying to get to redirect to through my tracking link and to the offer (I agree button) but I just can't seem to make it work, i've been at this for hours trying different combos but i'm basically a chicken with my head cut off in china with this html stuff.
Things i've tryed:
<div class="submit">
<a href="<?php echo $clickThruLink ?>">http://www.rd1123.com/tracking202/re...id=314&t202kw= class="btn">I Agree</a>
</div>
And basically everything in between what tijn said on his tutorial for doing this.
If anyone could give me a quick pointer to get me on track (no pun intended) i'd appreciate it, i'm sure this is one of those things that's really easy once you know how to do it,
Cheers!
Did you rename your lander from anything.html to anything.php ? I guess the php isnt being interpreted.
Well that was a really easy fix... haha now i know that HTML and PHP are compatible. Thanks man!
I'm glad it worked
have fun and I wish you lot of success. ;-)
Now when I generate my link and input it into the url bar to test it I get this error,
Warning: fopen(/var/nginx/rd1123.com/www/3rd-parties/geoip/GeoIPOrg.dat): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/nginx/rd1123.com/www/3rd-parties/geoip/geoip.inc on line 385
Can not open /var/nginx/rd1123.com/www/3rd-parties/geoip/GeoIPOrg.dat
This is the link that was generated:
http://www.rd1123.com/tracking202/re...id=625&t202kw=
Hey dave,
You need to put the GeoIPOrg.dat into the following directory:
... /3rd-parties/geoip/GeoIPOrg.dat
The error message describes that the script cannot find the GeoIPOrg.dat database (make sure you name it exactly as I've written above).
hope it helps.
Hey man thanks for your reply,
Should the GeoIPOrg file already be somewhere located throughout the files? I just created a new file called GeoIPOrg.dat in the geoip file and the file size is 0.
It is now giving me this error
Fatal error: error traversing database - perhaps it is corrupt? in /var/nginx/rd1123.com/www/3rd-parties/geoip/geoip.inc on line 606
I dont know if you have to buy it. So I cant help you much. I was just interpreting the error message ;-) But GeoIPOrg.dat has to contain data and not just a file created randomly. Maybe someone else can help.
Ahhhh I have to buy maxmind, problem solved!
Should finally have some numbers for tomorrow unless I get stuck at another random roadblock!
Yep GeoIP has to be bought since we can't ship it with the tracker due to licensing issues.
Anyway, keep us updated with your progress.
Hey guys! Got GeoIP successfully uploaded to my server and now i'm stuck with a brand new error
Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'WURFL_Storage_Exception' with message 'Couldn't show tables from database STM tracker 4.0 (You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'tracker 4.0 LIKE 'wurfl_object_cache'' at line 1)' in /var/nginx/rd1123.com/www/3rd-parties/wurfl/WURFL/Storage/Mysql.php:72 Stack trace: #0 /var/nginx/rd1123.com/www/3rd-parties/wurfl/WURFL/Storage/Mysql.php(51): WURFL_Storage_Mysql->initialize() #1 /var/nginx/rd1123.com/www/3rd-parties/wurfl/WURFL/Storage/Factory.php(43): WURFL_Storage_Mysql->__construct(Array) #2 /var/nginx/rd1123.com/www/3rd-parties/wurfl/WURFL/WURFLManagerFactory.php(142): WURFL_Storage_Factory::create(Array) #3 /var/nginx/rd1123.com/www/3rd-parties/wurfl/WURFL/WURFLManagerFactory.php(57): WURFL_WURFLManagerFactory:

Can anyone translate this or know a quick fix? Thanks!
Hmm - this seems to be related to new WURFL versions, as best I can tell.
Are you using the version of WURFL that comes with the tracker, or did you upgrade?
I think the spaces and/or periods in the name of your database is breaking the SQL query. Try renaming your database to something without spaces or periods through phpmyadmin, then updating the config file to reflect the change.
If that doesn't fix it, I'll be home from ASW in ~5 hrs and will be able to dig into it more.
^^ Can't believe I didn't spot that. Yep, looks like that's probably the problem.
Okay guys so I've got everything sorted out with tracking and have my ads running and approved as we speak.
I realized that I GEO targeted all countries on my english ads... woops..
Anyways I'm getting a decent CTR right now of 3 to 4% on my ads for english speaking countries such as canada and australia, it's statistically insignificant because there's only been a mere 100-200 impressions though.
Also how can I check the CTR on each specific ad, is that supposed to be showed on prosper or is that available to see on the network itself?
EDIT: The spot i'm in doesn't allow geo targeting I guess
Day one:
Spend: $25
Revenue: $3.60
Conversions: 1
Problems: The placements I'm on doesn't allow GEO targeting so I need to switch something up, I'm wasting loads of money on countries that can't even convert and some actually have decent CTRS.
Not going to cut anything yet, but can someone please tell me where I can find each specific ad CTR on TJ? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
But wouldn't I still be losing clicks and spending money on wasted impressions even in that case? Because TJ doesn't allow GEO targeting for any of my placements so it's targeting people in Zimbabwean and what not, and the offer only converts on AU, CA, NO, SE, US traffic. Unless I'm missing something in what you just said!
Is it possible to target ISP of only Canada or Only US? Then I could target my traffic without even specifically targeting a GEO
I now have two different campaigns set up, that I'm working with, I'm letting the offer that I couldn't GEO target, run on a different site where you can, although there's less impressions. On the other hand I set up an offer that I'm running on tube8, trying to get a feel of what ads these horny dudes like and so far i'm far into the red but that's okay have only spent about $20. How many impressions should I be thinking about cutting ads at?
I've been putting keywords on my ad links and just watching what ad is preforming best (getting most clicks) in prosper, as I still can't figure out how to find each specific ad CTR on TJ.
Starting to get quicker at creating my banners and landers, but still slow as shit and they don't look the hottest. Not going to stop working 8 hours a day until i'm out of money or rich.. hopefully the second option.
You could have 10+ offers for all you know bro, you can cover every single base of the traffic TJ is sending you, you just need to know the breakdown which you will be able to see through your tracker and with a few days of data
Ahhhhh clever man! This particular offer only allows targeting for those specific countries but I'll definitely be using this strategy in the future.
Is CPVlab able to redirect on geo's?
The latest version I used was 2.15, and that didn't have any redirect rules built in, but with some simple php code you can do it with their tokens.
I haven't tested this code but check it out here:
http://forums.appthemes.com/classipr...nal-php-16586/
Its not perfect for this scenario, but there's everything there to get you started and just need to edit the variables & statements around a bit. If anyone wants I can write up something for it.
iMobitrax is awesome for this though.
You can probably find some offer out there that will accept all remnant traffic such as your Zimbabwe traffic as a "catch all". Conversion rate/payout might be very low but better than nothing. Ask your AM.
