Hello guys,
We have all become used to facebook changes , new policies and all but the MOST RECENT UPDATE about
black listing affilliates and going direct with only a few approved advertisers seems to be most significant update
especially for everyone running dating so i thought a thread dedicated to this will be a good idea.
I personally am not 100 % sure about what exactly what the new policy say but i have gathered these around
the forum and i'll list the post from facebook pros:
"So now not only will affiliates get their own accounts banned, but they will
get the whole dating website blacklisted on Facebook as well.
Probably why a lot of offers updated their restrictions to 'no fb traffic' recently.|"
"I've lost a 5k, a 2k & multiple 1k accounts in past 10-15 days. I've been
running dating only since past 4-5 months & have well made over 250k in revenue so
I definitely can feel you bro. On new accounts, the first ads that I create for
fan pages get approved within 15 minutes & after that when I create ads for dating - instaban!"
"What really matters is this:
Facebook is going to ban all dating affiliates sooner or later. They will allow only
very few affiliates to advertise dating offers. The offer owner
will choose which affiliates can advertise on Facebook and he will also be responsible
for the affiliate's ads.
If facebook receives multiple complaints about a particular affiliate, they will ban
ALL affiliate accounts running that offer in addition to blacklisting the dating site."
"At 16:00 today effective immediately we will only allow dating advertisers who are working
within our managed book of business. This means that you must have a Facebook sales representative
in order to buy dating ads on Facebook. Our ambition is that this will be the first major step in
cleaning up the site and hope to see a significant decrease in bad dating ads the coming weeks|".
"There's been rumors for months about this.
I've talked to a Facebook rep and pretty much confirmed it. They had a meeting at
Facebook HQ last month with all the top dating advertisers"
"Basically the only people who will be able to do dating on Facebook are advertisers
themselves, and whitelisted affiliates. That means you have to submit your account #,
and have it associated with the dating company, and be approved.
I think now it's a 1-strike ban policy. Get a dating ad retroed, lose the account"
"Remember that with every policy change, there's always opportunity.
The guys who will be whitelisted will be in an environment where most
of the competition's gone, and they don't have to compete against risque images"
"The issue is the images just kept getting worse and worse. It was getting to the point where
I saw almost naked girls on my spy tools, because people had to push it that far to get a decent
CTR / CPC. Facebook had to do something before the PR got too bad"
I think we all knew this was bound to happen sooner or later given the naked pics and adult cloaking
but whats the impact of all this and how best to deal with it. Feel free to chip in anyone........................!
You pretty much summed it up right here. There has been a lot of talk about how important it is to build a relationship with an advertiser and an affiliate network. Those who have done this will benefit from this change, since they can get their FB account whitelisted and will be advertising in an "open water". Those who neglected this have a problem now. Don't expect the rules to ease up any time soon, they will only get more stricter.
I am still a bit confused by all this:
Say for example to run B2 they have to be whitelisted facebook advertiser and also approve you as a trusted affiliate
for facebook to allow you run run dating ads...?
If this is the case then it changes nothing with those cloaking anyways, does it..?
I mean they will just maybe play with wordings of ads and still run right..?
arrg!
!!!
If you have a facebook approved dating account.. you would be mad to cloak. You'll soon have next to no competition if you play it legit for a year. There will be a fair few approved accounts banned as this progesses. Marketers who stay legit will get their rewards
I guess its time to discuss on which other vertical will be best to go after on Facebook PPC. isn't it ?
Keep one thing in mind, affiliates are responsible for a vast majority of Facebook's ad revenue. While they might increase scrutiny, Facebook must still keep affiliates around for their bottom line.
^^ This
Really eager to see how this unfolds in 2014,
bc i pretty certain this will not end like this.
I mean people are gonna find ways around the system
people will still cloak dating!
It also does not seem fair that one or two greedy affiliates will get
an advertiser blacklisted. I know you approve they to run your offers
but still you do not have 100% over what they do !
With that being said, Facebook has to monitor affiliates closely and utilize their ban hammer because they are a public company and they do want to show the public that they care about their users. Facebook is trying to figure out the best way to balance user experience and profits.
I think this new policy is still like a test to see how its gonna go down and changes will be made along the line
bc its really not 100%workable atm from the way i see it or maybe i am totally out of context but i picked this up from my skype group chat:
(
1. own major dating site
2. run risky ads pointing to your main competitor (make sure it looks like you're an aff
3. get them banned
4. less competition thus
5. profit
)
I mentioned something similar, advertise can't control 100% what affiliates are gonna do even if they will choose
their trusted affiliates. How will they control 100% what they do.
Facebook itself is very subjective with ad approval bc its done by humans and they don't seem to have a clear
definition of what is acceptable and what is not. They approve an image for one campaign but decline same ad for another !
Lol your example is common sense to debunk. Let's illustrate with an example:
I own a dating site called JustScam
I whitelist 2 affiliates to promote for me:
1. Jon Scumbag - Ad Account #1234567890
2. Terry Whitehat - Ad Account #09876654321
My competition is the surprisingly successful ScamFinder
ScamFinder has 2 affiliates:
1. Donald Draper - Ad Account #1111111111
2. David Ogilvy - Ad Account #2222222222
You really think if Jon Scumbag runs cloaked adult ads pointed at ScamFinder, it'll be linked to them? Remember they're whitelisted and LINKED to my company. Anything bad they do causes the demise of my own agreement with FB.
You want to hope for a world where amateur hour can make you money, but unforuntately in this dog-eat-dog world, that is not going to happen
Hey Timtetra ,
i am no pro at facebook and i am a newbee indeed still learning the ropes and i appreciate your post but i feel
arrogance in your words
Timtetra, "You want to hope for a world where amateur hour can make you money, but unforuntately in this dog-eat-dog world, that is not going to happen"
Really...?
I'm sorry if you mistook my statement as arrogant, but I feel like far too many people I talk to want to make a quick buck on facebook, but out of all the traffic sources I run, it is BY FAR the most difficult to do on a long-term and massive scale, especially with the Facebook team rapidly accelerating their regulations and restrictions. This is quite possibly the worst time for you to pick up this traffic source. I mean look at your seasoned whale competition -- they've been cloaking and have lost hundreds of accounts reverse engineering and figuring out what exactly triggers the bans, they know exactly how to balance driving quality leads, they've split test probably ever dating offer out there, have experience making and ripping and modding the best converting LP's. When Be2 decides who they want to promote for them, a newbie starting out will NEVER get a look vs someone who runs xx,xxx/day for them consistently.
By all means, go ahead and try out gaming and a few of the "safe" niches still left on there, I wasn't trying to belittle you, but I had to counter-comment to the would-be-speculators who are airing their opinions despite never really running with the platform in volume.
It's all good bro!
