I am starting online shop and while my programming team is doing their job, I am thinking about email and affiliate systems. My goal is to slash my costs as much as possible, because this is a low income country and I am not going to make much from each registered user.
These are my two concerns, how to handle them?
Email marketing service
I expect to grow to at least 50,000 users and need to manage them. All services which I found online (aweber, getresponse etc...) charge at least $300-400 a month. Are there any cheaper alternatives? or maybe my server can do a magic? No idea! I plan to send emails at least once a week.
Affiliate program software
Found a lot of those while browsing internet but still kind of have no idea what to do. There are paid programs such as cj.com where I could join and they would handle all stuff but I don't want to spend much on this. Is there any easy way out? As a plan B, I am thinking about asking my programmers to code simple affiliate system...

Email: you could look into hosted software like Sendy or Interspire. Be aware that email marketing is a big topic though - it's easy to end up with a solution that might be cheap but won't actually deliver your emails!
There have been a couple of really great threads on email marketing lately- check through them ( on the "Email" board ) at least before choosing a solution!
