I've been firing up some campaigns and had a couple of basic questions that some of you guys might be able to help with. Any advice is appreciated.
1) CPM or CPC when starting campaigns? What about later on? Is one better than the other?
2) Why does it say every demo has a top CPM of .1? This cannot possibly be correct, but whenever I hit the button that allows me to beat the top CPM running for any given placement, it sets it at .111.
3) RON or Premium to start off? I've been starting all my placements on sites I hand pick in the premium section based on the amount of volume they give. Bad form?
1.CPM if you have proven banners with decent ctr's
2. Not sure, i think its a recent bug. I saw that the other day and i got excited because i thought i stumbled onto an abandoned geo. set my bids really low and got no traffic.
3. RON on exo is generally shit traffic and a good way to get booted of an offer quick
1. I always use CPM.
2. I think it's a bug. If you bid 0.11 and record your traffic levels, then raise your bid to 0.21, you can see immediately that you're getting more traffic despite technically being in the same position. Also if you check your campaign the next day, you'll see that you're only getting a fraction of the traffic at 0.11 (can also be affected by frequency cap).
I would only bid 0.11 at a high frequency cap to capture the remnant traffic.
3. I usually splurge $300-$500 testing RON traffic first. I note down the converting targets then setup individual placements. Or I'll create a list of the converting targets then setup a new RON campaign but only target the converting domains in the Advanced URL settings.
RON tends to be lower quality traffic, so save yourself a headache by cherry-picking creatives that are on the conservative side with their claims. Raise your minimum age by a couple of years.
Premium traffic on EXO is hit and miss, as you'd expect.
I prefer the RON route to allow fast progress, even if it means taking heavy early losses. Not a problem if you have a 'research' budget: http://finchsells.com/2013/11/14/a-n...ate-campaigns/
Thanks for the tips guys! Does the CPM bid affect quality at all? Or does bid only really have an impact on traffic and that's it, and I'm ok in testing all my campaigns on low bids to start out?
Edit: Just read a few posts from another thread and it seems that the higher the bid the earlier the exposure so it must have some sort of impact on quality.
It could have an impact since the lower CPM get the late impressions which are generally lower quality.
