Best Forum Software?

Hey Guys,

We have a fan page of about 400,000 in a niche...looking to build a forum around the traffic. Most I have seen aren' all that nice looking and a little confusing (this niche is not very computer savvy)

Any thoughts and experience?

Thanks!

vBulletin, the software these forums run on.

How is it for mobile? My niche is looking for something a little nicer and more inviting is all...

Mobile web browsing on the forums isn't great.

The mobile app Tapatalk has support vBulliten forums.

IMO, to make any of the self-hosted forums "nice & inviting", you're going to have to do some customization.

vBulletin is a premium forum software, I seem to remember it's in the region of $100 for a lifetime licence, however as its private there are often exploits with new board/plugin releases. I would go for MyBB, a public software which isn't can be made to look just as good plus it has the advantage of rarely being exploitable.

IP Board also has a good product but fairly expensive especially since they sell it by modules.

I have a good friend who uses xenforo, its pretty slick and seems to be of good value compared with vbulletin.

Vbulletin is easy and reliable with a tonne if support. Make sure you do your research because once you start your community it's a bitch to switch to another platform.

Vbulletin since it's the most common forum software around.

You can find tons of plugins / customizations etc. Also there are tons of VB freelancers you can hire for custom mods.

I would recommend Vbul as well. The mobile plugin works pretty decent, and you can get template designers, etc to make it more userfriendly.
