Hello,
For my TJ banners I search the web for some animated gifs and then I add text next to the image with photoshop. My problem is that I get very big files like 500 K and the max seems to be 300 K for TJ. How do you deal with that? How to reduce them? I tried lowering the colors, but then the image is not that good. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Another thing you can do is remove a couple of frames, let's say every second one and wait twice the amount of time between frames.
It has only 17 frames, but I will try it
17 seems like a lot to me.
Generally my TJ animated banners are about 8-10 (maybe 12).
@andyvon - good point about removing every second frame, generally still produces a nice animation.
Other than removing every second frame you could try.
- "Save for web"
- Lower the amount of colors down from 256.
Thanks, I already tried lowering the colors, but it gets very shitty.
I also tried websites that seem to reduce the size, but no big difference. I will go for removing frames.
On average, is it better to have an animated image over a static one?
Animated have worked better for me. If you want you can send over one of your creatives. I'll play with it to see how low I can get the file size without ruining quality.
Thanks Mr Green, I really don't wanna bother you with these newbie things, I can manage it. I will need you for some more advanced things for sure
The way I do it ( works on Mac only ) :
1 - Open the gif file in preview
2 - Select View >> Thumbnails
3 - CMD+A to select all frames
4 - Tools >> Adjust Size
5 - Change resolution till the file is small enough without making it looks horrible
No MACs for me
But thanks anyways
Also worth playing with the "lossy" settings in Photoshop Save For Web: they'll make the image grainier, but will also reduce the size a bit.
