Hey guys,
This may be a ridiculously dumb question lol but here goes...I'm using Astrill for a VPN and when I go to various countries in Europe (Hungary, Lithuania, Ukraine, etc.) it shows American ads and even mainstream sites like Yahoo are in English. Shouldn't the ads/websites be in their native language?
I check my IP location and it says the appropriate country so I'm kinda confused.
Thanks
Depends on how the adserver does it's targeting. Aside from your IP, your browser sends out an Accept-Language header which specifies your region and language preferences, e.g., Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.5
So should I try different browsers/different language headers?
It may also just be that people are advertising in English in those countries. A lot of advertisers will run English ads even in non-English-speaking countries just out of bad targeting or laziness. However, definitely worth checking and changing your language header too.
I think the main reason is what kyleirwin said.
You can change the language in your browser preferences.
