So I have an agency account. Last night before 12 I uploaded 20 ads. This morning I wake up check my fb email and all the ads got approved. Then I log into fb account and all of those ads are on pause? So I made them all active again and 2 hours went by and still no impressions/traffic.Never had this problem before any1 have same thing going on? The countries im targeting are Norway and USA if that helps. Thank you.

I have the same thing. Every new ad launched goes on pause and then no traffic for hours and hours.. I did some ads about 13 hours ago, still no traffic but all approved.

After spending the last 5+ days with Facebook bidding I can honestly say the platform runs on voodoo magic. Whenever something odd has happened I just chalk it up to FB being a clusterfuck.

I have had campaigns where only 2/10 ads in the campaign have gotten any impressions even with being at the ceiling or over the suggested bid. I have had ads that start at crazy high CTR's stop getting impressions at like 300 while ads with CTR like shit have impressions that rain down from the sky. I have had ad's that get clicks every second for a few minutes then nothing for hours then guess what clicks every few seconds then none again for hours.

Im hoping as the days pass I at least get a handle on what is causing this or I see a pattern.

Facebook Advertising Late 2013

I was seeing the same thing a while back on some accounts. They were personal accounts, not agency but were doing the same thing. It seemed like a review of sorts. Ads would be approved then paused. All other active ads were not getting traffic. For several hours the only clicks coming in were from FB. After a few hours traffic would resume as normal.

Just a note - if you're duplicating campaigns in Power Editor that are paused, they will be paused when they are approved and you'll have to start them manually.

Something I've noticed as well is if you start out running right side ads and then switch to newsfeed you'll have more issues getting traction. Had two account running intl right side and switched to US newsfeed and right side is the only thing that would spend. Also, newsfeed ads get approved much quicker than right side so consider just running newsfeed because it seems like right side has a different review algorithm/and or/approval process.

Newsfeed is a land of oCPM - were you bidding in that mode? Sidebar ads get a tonne of impressions in comparison.

not sure if the above post was meant for me, but i always bid CPC. My CTRs always go to shit when switching to CPM. Every time.

Not CPM - optimised CPM (oCPM). Regular CPM is crap. You will want to move toward oCPM if you want better traction in the newsfeed.

Interesting. I've tested oCPM as well but also saw a large dip in CTR and about the same CPC, with CPM ending up being slightly more. Have you noticed any difference in traffic quality between the two? I have heard that CPM is lower quality than their CPC inventory

CPM evidently seems to give crappier traffic. Not oCPM though, for me it has outperformed CPC day in day out.

That is interesting Zeno, do you use the default bids for oCPM or set them manually?

Default seems to work well for me. Depends on what you want though - if doing page like ads for instance you'd probably want to split test default vs some other weighting.

Does your website click cost end up being much lower with oCPM, and does your CTR stay roughly the same? Thanks for the input, going to give this a test myself.

oCPM's a different ball game - can't really generalise it but you should be able to get lower CPA's for the actions you want. I'd recommend just testing it yourself.
