Hey everyone,
I'm just going through the 2013 newbies course and have signed up with several Affiliate networks. I have learned from reading so far that I should pick an offer that is available in most of the networks so I could test the networks against each other.
So I dug deep into the feedbacks I received from my Affiliate Managers and have found an offer that is available in 4 of my 5 networks. However, the offer is neither my mother language (German) nor English (which I could understand and write in). It's in another European language. Besides this geographic "niche" the offer itself is not a niche but a very generic dating offer. Let's say it's be2 Poland (which it isn't and I'm not even sure if there is such an offer).
My question here is: How do you research your competition to find out what has been working for them? I'm using the POF Spy Tool from AffExpert here.
With English I would have no problem. For a generic english dating offer (not a niche so to say) I would simply set the time frame to three months until today and then sort the results by the number of days seen (largest to smallest). However, I don't know how to narrow that down to only show offers (and their images, copy, CTA etc.) only for "POland" (to stick with that example)...
Any help is very much appreciated. THANKS!
Is the country available on POF? That's worth checking before you do all the research. Currently only the UK, France and Spain are available to select out of EU countries, I believe.
Unfortunately the POF ad spy tool only works for US and Canada profiles at the moment. However, don't worry too much about that: you can get a lot of valuable info researching similar demographics in other countries.
Just research similar demographics to your chosen offer in the US and CA - so if the offer targets older men, look at the ads aimed at older men in the US and CA. That'll give you some valuable ideas to get started.
You can also research ads on other traffic sources - for example, try the Adult Spy in the country of your offer. Look at the ad text and put it through Google Translate to see what they're actually advertising, and note down anything unusual that you see in several ads. At the same time, keep an eye on what sort of pictures seem to be working well in that country. Obviously you can't use the same images, but you can, for example, notice that freckled redheads seem to be popular...
Does that make things clearer? Let me know if you could do with more detail.
Hi caurmen. Thanks for your help. Yes it makes things clearer. To stick with your example, I understand that I would research a keyword like "senior" and the corresponding timeframe to see what works in the US and CA and then translate (language and also somehow the "angle") towards other countries. What I have read so far is that it could be valuable to research expat-forums and see what they talk about, right?
I also have purchased a copy of cashvertising to get a few more ideas for angles... :-)
Yep, exactly so! And yes, expat forums are a fantastic resource.
