Help! Why does my Landing Page suck?

Dear stm members,

This Thread "Help! Why does my Landing Page suck?" should be a serie to help me improve my landing pages. Since my current landing pages are really bad I don't have a problem publishing them fully. I would appreciate it if you could really, really give me advices which I will implement and test the ideas out.

Thanks a lot.

Let's start, this is my best combination and I cannot push it further.

The stats are:
Conversion Rate: 1.75 %
LP CTR: 37.55 %
Angle: Hairy (I use another one but this is just for demonstration)

My example ad text is:

Some images have a CTR of 0.250%

Thanks a lot for your help. You're great.

is that overall conversion, or conversion from LP to offer.

If conversion from LP to offer is decent, but overall conversion rate is bad, it could be an issue with the ads possibly. The LP ctr seems fine, with the CR that low, is it a substantial amount of data / have you tested multiple offers? I personally could not get that offer profitable myself and had to keep searching for other offers. It's not always your lander that is the problem, sometimes offers don't convert well enough.

Hey keepitsimple, thanks for your information.

It's the overall Conversionrate from AD --> LP --> Offer. I've added my ad text. Thanks for your help

I would try rotating offers if possible, though idk if that will cause issues with you if you're running on FB, they may not appreciate the offer change idk. The ad and LP line up fine though, images on ad and lp / offer page look similar, all I can think of is try a different offer possibly. Maybe split test a LP without the sexy part idk. I run a decent bit of 40+ dating and I've never focused too much on "sexy", I use that on my 18-30 campaigns. Not saying sexy is not a good angle for 40+, but that you may be attracting a certain kind of clicker with that sexy language, it almost sounds like it could be a hookup site and you could be getting curiosity clicks as well.

It's not just about getting high ctr / lots of clicks, it's also about getting the type of clicks that are going to convert on the type of offer you are promoting. 40+ singles is a very clean looking lander, people who clicked on an ad promoting sexiness might not be interested in a mature dating site.

Hey keepitsimple,

Okay thanks. I have been testing different headlines, not only sexy ones... and this headline worked the best for me after 120 - 150 clicks. I'm not sure - maybe I do missing it or Im going in the wrong direction. Are you speaking specific about the ad? Maybe I could get more quality clicks by removing the "sexy" part. Do you mean this?

Do you think I should throw away this offer and look for a new one? Maybe more niche one? I personally couldnt find a better offer ....

Great idea on posting this!

A couple of thoughts on the lander:

1) Your angle doesn't continue into the body text, which looks quite "generic dating site". I'd add another mention of your "hairy" angle in there - maybe "Hundreds of women who have listed "hairy" as a turn-on" or something similar.

2) How many main images have you split-tested? That main left-side image looks very stock photography, and I rarely find couple pics do well - particularly with men. I'd try some more images!

3) If you can, animate the "online" images so that one or two of them start off and come on, and other ones start on and then go off. Failing that, don't have all the pics online: having one or two offline makes it much more believable.

yeah Id agree on your main image.. the birds in the small windows (online) look semi raunchy.. the main image looks like a health insurance advert..

that there is where it's breaking down imo...

To me, all your images look weird, the main one is so stock like and the small ones look like they have badly photoshopped backgrounds.

Here's an easy one.

Have a pic of a hot girl with a hair guy... I'm sure there's stuff in Google images you can find.

Thanks for your input. I will give it a new try. I have a question: Fortyplus uses this main background image (the big one on the left), Should I still use another image on my lander? Thanks guys, you're awesome... I love your feedback. thanks for sharing =)

I think your body copy can use a bit of work. Maybe cater to their ego a little bit more.. you need more persuasive elements

You can try going through Cialdini's 6 elements of persuasion:
http://www.mindtools.com/pages/artic...-influence.htm

1. Reciprocity
2. Commitment (and Consistency)
3. Social Proof
4. Liking
5. Authority
6. Scarcity

Start brainstorming and see what you can come up with.

It's a little cliche, like a bad romance flick that the man and the woman are looking away, dazed in love. I think it would help if the man and the woman were looking somewhat towards the direction of your traffic.

Definitely:

1) Rotate offers, like Keepitsimple said your CTR is not to bad, it could be your offer who knows, you will know when you split test though

2) Hairy 40+ men, interesting haha!

3) Have you tried a more amateur photo on the left? Pretty stock looking, not sure how that would effect conversion rates.

4) You tried split testing CTA?

5) Does your page load well?

The Image on the left is taken from the offer directly. Should I still put another image on there? Thanks for your advices. What do you think???

11-27-2013 03:16 PM #16 caurmen (Administrator)

DEFINITELY try another image. I see what you're going for with using the same image, but changing it will probably improve your performance considerably once you hit the right image.

Maynzie also makes a very good point - definitely check how fast your landers are loading.

Hello guys, I tried a new landing page variation...

Am I getting closer or is this even worse?

Please read here: (Click here), because I guess I need to fix something else first... I would appreciate your advice

You're definitely heading in the right direction.

I'd recommend getting MUCH more specific in your sales text. What can you offer that they won't have seen a million times before? Can you be more specific about how the "match-making" will be different to, say, POF's?

Also, I'd prepare a few different angles for the text - "love again and a soulmate" might not be what your audience are looking for. What about the "You're not too old to have fun" angle, for example, or "approachable women who don't have impossible standards" angle?

BTW, if that testimonial doesn't actually come from 40+ Singles, I'd remove it and look for one that's actually from the site. False testimonials are one of the more risky things you can have on an LP in most juristictions. Having a testimonial on there is good, though - if there aren't any on the 40+ Singles site, look for reviews of the site which you can pull approving quotes from.

Definitely going in the right direction - have you tested this one yet?

Looks like you spelled "tough" wrong in the testimonial by Miss Charlotte. Use a spell check to make sure all the words stated properly, so the message gets across correctly.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. I created a new lander and test it now ;-) let's see.
