Strange Landing Pages?

Hey there,

I'm currently researching some competition via the POF Spy Tool. What I find a little bit strange is the fact that when I click the links of some of the pages showing up there (and being only for 40+ days) I come to several completely dating-unrelated sites, like domain brokers (this domain is for sale), groupon like sites etc.

What is that? I thought that if you invest money in buying traffic from POF you have a strong interest in having at least a somehow related offer online...?

Cool discovery, maybe if you're clicking from within the spy tool itself, their cloaker picks it up and redirects to another page?
You could try finding a live ad and clicking from inside pof.

Hopefully someone else knows the conclusive answer to this

A lot of time when you get strange destinations like that, it's because of your location and they are targeting a diff location maybe.

I guess some of them might be cloaking

Could also just be that the ad isn't live currently - are you limiting your search on the Spy Tool to the last few months or searching "All Time"?

I just took that last three months until today and then sorted by "Days seen". If it's a niche specific offer (like BBW, military or similar) I enter the keyword into the textbox (see my other post)

Aha - what's probably happening is that some of those landing pages haven't been active for a month or so, and so the owner's taken them down or moved domain. Some people change domains quite often, or decide to quit AM, or whatever.

Some of the weird results will be that, some of them will be cloaking, and some of them will be geo-redirects for another country.

I'd have to say cloaking too.. like their site looks for specific referrer from their traffic source. If it doesn't come from plentyoffish.com, they might redirect to something else

Seems like cloaking to me, definitely something people can put in place to protect
