Click Discrepancies (ExoClick)
i seem to be getting a major discrepancy between ExoClick and tracking202 for clicks. I understand that 5-10% is to be expected, but I am receiving up to 90% across all of my campaigns running on ExoClick.
I contacted them yesterday about this issue, and we went back and fourth on a few emails, and I provided them with the information they wanted so they could launch an investigation. I received this email back from them:
Hello angry old lady,
Thank you for your patience. We have now investigated this matter and been in contact with our IT department.
We have been advised the following:
Please try to avoid comparing statistics you are receiving from your own tracking tool with the ones from ExoClick as we count the clicks differently.
We count 1 click / Unique IP / 24hrs. Each unique click is counted against your Ad, not on your landing page/website display (which is the case for your tracking tool). For example, if a visitor clicks on your ad and closes the page before it is fully displayed, Google Analytic's or other web analytic tools will not count the visitor. The discrepancy can be very high sometimes, especially if you for example put your Google Analytic's tag at the bottom of your page.
This is a common issue and we highly recommend you to use our Tracking Tag which is a simple pixel tag that will help you to follow any discrepancy between clicks and visitors seeing your full page. See the link below for further information.
I don't really see how this would help with my problem. i mean, it would help a bit but like I said, i'm experiencing around 90% discrepancy between ExoClick and tracking202. that's quite a difference.
anyone experienced this issue before?
thank you

Wow, that is quite a discrepancy. No fun.
What sort of server are you using? Is it a dedicated server, VPS or shared host?

I would say it's most likely in your setup, as 90% is abusrd!
Either within the way you setup your tracking, or your hosting. Those 2 come to mind first.

I doubt it's EXO , I have been running with them for quite some time and didn't have these problems.
To help you debug :
1 - What server are you using?
2- About what daily volume are we talking.
3 - Have you tried putting prosper's js after the opening <head> tag?
Let us know so we can help you fix the issue.

Also, when looking at the stats, do you have set on "all clicks" or "real clicks" ?
90% is a huge discrepancy though

1. VPS server
2. not much, still starting out, just gathering data at the moment.
3. the js tag is at the top
I ran traffic from both ExoClick and TrafficJunky through it. same setup, just different tracking sources. zero problems with TrafficJunky
I havnt used ExoClick since then, and I have switched servers for an unrelated reason. currently using TJ (still no problems)
ill throw the same banners back on ExoClick and see if anything has changed, ill report back with what I find.
I appreciate the help. thanks everyone

Yep , that is pretty strange. Maybe something was wrong at the moment with your server or campaign setup.
