the ups and downs, has this happen to you before? (15)

the ups and downs, has this happen to you before?

I've been running mobile traffic now for a few months, and I was just wondering if either scenario has happen to you before, and why?

Scenario A. Camp launched, roi/income is modest (maybe 20-30 per day sometimes less), then all of a sudden a day or two later its up to $xxx per day.
Scenario B. Camp launch, is doing great ($xxx per day) then just completely drops off the face of the earth.

I am still pretty new to understanding RTB systems and how most of these platforms work, I am just hoping to gain a little insight why this is happening. I should also mention, this isn't restricted to just 1 platform, it has happen to me on the two platforms I run on.

Are you promoting the same offer to get these results?

Is your hosting decent?

Are you using landing pages in all campaigns?

I can't say I see swings like these.

Same offer yes, landing page, good hosting.

i agree, i can't wrap my head around this.

should also mention, its not the performance of the offer thats up and down.

the traffic from the ad network will just disappear or reappear lol

Well same offer seems like the obvious link between this problem.

It doesn't make sense that you run on multiple ad networks, unless you are targeting one placement or some small targeted niche.

i'm not sure I understand, why would using the same offer cause the ad network to be inconsistent with traffic?

maybe i didn't word it right, the problem isn't the actually offer/camp i'm running, it's the traffic from the mobile ad networks. One network is self-serve and the other is a manged platform i use one for getting campaigns up and going quickly while the other is more of a scaling network, i thought this approach would benefit me more since both have their own core of direct publishers. I know a lot of inventory is shared but not always.

my approach to campaign setup may be too small but i try to split camps up by carrier, while targeting 1 device, 1 os to go along with each major carrier in the respected country. so while it may seem very narrow, i make sure i am targeting the networks most used handsets.

Ah right the traffic just starts and stops spontaneously? I'm guessing it's just people outbidding you on the same inventory, then dropping off at points.

Hmm this is pretty weird.

About how much volume are we talking here?

Also you said you do separate campaigns for each carrier. Does it mean traffic dies at the same time on all carriers?

my campaigns go through major swings lately and it's takin a toll on me mentally lol, been going from x,xxx / day to some days negative,

@2live & @keepitsimple

Those are some big swings. I don't see those either, ever.

What kind of offers and volume?

thanks for all the replies

here is a screenshot from my tracker:

The campaign was launched Sunday night, so I didn't expect much of anything in terms of volume. Saw some decent spend on Monday, but that died out rather quickly. The trend pretty much continued from Tuesday until Friday.

I woke up Friday thinking I would have even less of a spend, but it was the exact opposite. Now since Friday, without changing any campaign settings the campaigns spend has tripled since Monday.

Is this something I should just expect? The network this particular campaign is running on is inmobi.

beginning to think this is all it is. and maybe an advertiser dropped his campaign on friday?

Are you bidding on specific pubs/placements, or is it a blind network?

If it's the latter, it could be that specific pubs are no longer available on that network. I had a similar issue on an adult mobile network earlier this year. For a couple of months, traffic and ROI were awesome, then one day, traffic virtually stopped. When I checked my referers, it appeared that the specific pub I was getting good traffic/ROI, had just vanished from their inventory.

You should be discussing this with your account manager at inMobi. He will give you an answer in 5 minutes. There's no point speculating as there are at least a dozen potential reasons why your traffic drops off.

Its not uncommon for some pubs to block your campaign entirely if they don't like what you are advertising.

@nick yes this is a blind network, but from what Ive read on this forum there is a way to get pub ids passed back if I up my spend. So I will be speaking to my account manager tonight when they sign on.

@deondup i figure its either a placement opened up either by being added to their network or an advertiser dropped off. Theres so many variables like you said. I just hope I can get the extra token added so I can see whats really going on.

It's actually really common for this to happen with InMobi
