Just Been having a little think about something a friend asked me
"work is a bit slow at the minute i really need to advertise more online"
Now he and a lot other friends have trades plasterers, electricians, carpenters, and generally take on building work like bathrooms, kitchens, refurbishments etc...
I thought about testing few ads to see what the response would be like but wondering of a way this could work out for both of us and maybe scale to others if it works
1) They pay me a monthly fee (which being tight bastards they wont like)
2) Test pay per call and track calls somehow and they pay me per lead not that i have tested this yet but with building work not sure if pay per call would work as people like to see previous work etc maybe for emergency type trades like locksmiths etc... it would work well
3) Set up something like a landing page for people to get free quotes, which i have seen doing quick few quick searches where they collect name, email, phone, job description, trade required etc... and then there selling them leads
Still scribbling down ideas, But thought i would make a little post see if anyone tried anything like this before
another thing is i think selling leads to them will be easier, but what about a percentage of the job which makes it even harder to keep track off but when i was in the building game if we had to much work we give it to someone else for a cut or small % of the job
Now it could be a £400 plastering job or a £50,000 extension
Anyway Just wondering at the minute and thinking different ideas
I've not done this personally, but I've talked with people who have. It's a solid business plan - the tricky bit, as I understand it, tends to be educating people who aren't used to paying for leads on the costs and how tracking works, etc.
You might be better to charge a fixed fee for advertising per month, even given their initial reluctance.
Once you've got a couple of people on this and can demonstrate it works, picking up more clients will become easier - social proof is powerful stuff in this case.

another idea i though of is maybe creating and testing once i know the ads work well is the idea of a website where trades etc can join for monthly fee abit like a auction site bid for leads in certain areas and option buy out towns, maybe few extras you can sell like buying the whole county which consists of alot towns with minimum prices in place
