Adult Money or BUST! -- My Journey in Adult Ads

I figured I'd give this a go, since it's really my first attempt at any type of adult media buying (I will mainly be working with mobile traffic here).

I've never posted a follow along before so I hope it helps me reach my goals quicker, while helping others learn too!

Here is my setup:

Campaign Budget: $200 with a $50 per day spend. -- Figure this is a good starting point, I will scale back or up depending on how things go.

Ad Network/Placements: ExoClick will be the network I'm going to start with. I'd rather keep the exact placement under wraps to avoid any unnecessary competition. I will say its an alexa ranked site in the top 50s, and is a tube site.

After doing a quick Alexa search, it appears the site I am targeting has a ton of US traffic for me to test, and some juicy countries to scale to if things go according to plan!

Creatives: I will be starting with 10 banners using 2 angles total.
1. Message banners (5 total banners)
2. Try this before wanking (5 total banners)

Landing Pages: This was a little tricky, and I wasn't sure what path to take here. I decided to see what everyone else is up to, and found 3 common styles that I liked the best. I will be using 1 angle across the 3 different styles of landing pages here. The angle I will start with is "Warning: this site may contain photos of someone you may know!"

Offers I will be using F5 for this go around. Both offers are SOI and for US traffic only
Wildbuddies (split testing 2 offer pages for this one)
Housewifehookups

My Current Goal: Get this campaign to break even!
(will update this goal periodically throughout the follow-along)

I will be using iMobitrax to track this campaign, and will be set to start most likely right after I submit this thread.

Stay tuned!

Great stuff!

You're almost certainly going to need more than 4 days' spend - that's barely enough time to do any optimisation - but I'm guessing you know that already!

Looking forward to seeing how this one works out!

Would of made a post last night, but cut out early for a friend's birthday!

My spend went super quick after getting my campaign approved on exo.

Here are my stats from yesterday:

Spent: $87.47 (even though I set a $50 cap!)
Revenue: $17.20 (17 conversions)
Bottom Line: -$70.27

Notes:

- So moving forward I know now that I must be weary of my overages one exo, 37$ over my daily budget yesterday!
- I think with the limited mobile targeting, I will be forced to separate my campaigns by manufacturer moving forward as all cpms aren't the same for each. I think breaking them down will help me optimize this campaign easier.
- I think I am able to eliminate at least some of my split testing variables.

Stats per lander:

m3 clearly didn't perform nearly as well as m1 and m5.

Also, at least one of the offers performed poorly vs the other two:

Also, there were some ads that got a bunch of clicks and sent 0 conversions. I will be cutting those out as well moving forward.

So just two questions....

Now that I am going to take a different approach, is it now pointless to cut these variables(poor performing lps, offer lp, creatives)?
Once you guys see poor performing ads, do you immediately replace them with a newer angle / or try the same angle but a different style?

@caurmen: I will definitely up the spend, I just wasn't sure what to expect from this source of traffic. I truly see the potential here, and I am feeling good so far!

Anyways, I should be moving forward again tonight around 7pm EST!

Have you thought about trying some international traffic? If your using the same landers with the "Warning: this site may contain photos of someone you may know!" this angle has been used for months on end in the US. Not saying it's not possible to make a lot of bucks in the US but your going to have to come up with something fresh to differentiate your campaigns from the average schmuck.

i have, but the volume in the US is too large to ignore

I'd probably worry about volume at a later stage to be honest. I don't want to be a dick, but there are a shitload of other countries that probably have enough volume and are less competitive than US given your budget.

Beside that, you're running 10 ads and 3 landers with 2 offers. Even for a $100 budget per day, you won't get any kind of data you can base your decision on, especially given all the metrics involved in mobile (this is assuming you're banners are a bit different not all the same layout and just different images). Problem is that you're trying to find winning ad + lp + offer combos, for the first weeding out offer(s) which does not seem to convert. You gotta let it run first to have a bit of data about the offers to compare, then take care of banners and LPs.

You want to get around 2-3x / + spent per creative and LP combination (given you got an offer confirmed to work), so that alone combined with different metrics like carrier / handset etc. makes it tough to test. Maybe get some info about carriers that seem to be doing good on this offers or handsets to avoid testing really everything right form the start if you're a bit short on budget.

Typically, you want to match the Ads with the landers. They should go hand-in-hand with each other. So if you're running something like:

Code:
Ad: Want asian chicks?
Ad: Want Milfs?
Ad: Want blondes?

LP: "Warning: this site may contain photos of someone you may know!"
The above ads and LPs combinations don't really go with each other. If someone clicks on an ad looking for asian chicks, you gotta deliver on the LP rather than being generic.

Here's one way to approach it:

Code:
Ad: Want asian chicks? --> LP: <image of asian chick> These asian chicks are waiting for you
Ad: Want Milfs? --> LP: <image of milf chick> These milf chicks are waiting for you
Ad: Want blondes? --> LP: <image of blonde chick> These blonde chicks are waiting for you
