Direct links vs Landing Pages (15)

Hello,

if I would decide to promote http://thetaoofbadass.com for example, would it be better to create a landing page for it or link ads directly to the offer?

Isn't a landing page just another extra step for the user? I've read quite a bit so far, but I still don't know, why would I not be able to incorporate my affiliate link in the ad and send the visitors directly to the product.

Please enlighten me, I'm new to this.

Generally , it all depends on how good the lander of the offer you are sending traffic to is.

In your case , The Tao of Badass , they have a pretty good lander so a lander might not be necessary.

With that said , if you have any great angles or want to put your own spin to it , split test it.

Thanks. If I'd create a landing page for Tao of Badass, together with a "buy" button, would that take the visitor directly to the cart or to TOB website? I've seen a lot of blogs promoting products, and if you click "buy" or whatever, it just takes you to the product owners landing page.

Again, this depends on offer.. You have to use regular offer link and often there is no other way than to product landing page.

If you're adventurous and since it's a clickbank product, you could try hosting the entire landing page/sales process on your site if you wanted and then use the vendor's pay button:

Yes, this is what I was wondering - so basically there is no other way available, than either link to the offer directly, or to your own landing page, since we can't use the "cart" directly. OK, landing pages are good - I'll probably start with a site similar to http://www.ratalliance.com/. If I get the e-mail address, I'll start with 3-5 good content e-mails (to build trust), and then the offer e-mail. I have something similar in mind like Glen described some while ago - it was called Cloud Blogging or something like that. @hendrix - that's a pretty solid and well-tested way to promote this sort of offer. The big advantage is that you don't just have to promote one offer: once you've got their email, provided you keep them interested with good content, you can keep throwing affiliate offers at them, from dating sites to other PUA manuals to muscle offers to anything else you can think of!

Actually, you can do this. I have an affiliate link cloaking script that allows you to link your buy button directly to their Clickbank order page and get full credit as the affiliate.

So say you have a lander and you place a Buy button on it. You can have that Buy button go directly to their Clickbank checkout so they never see the product owner's sales page at all. On my script it is called a "Stealth Redirect" Is this what you are looking to do?

Are there other plugins that do this? Doesnt trustjacker do something similar (I could be way off on this).

That type of 'cloaking' he talked about isn't really cloaking, it's more akin to a host-and-post.

Cloaking is about showing reviewers and certain parties something different to what real users see.

This is more about bridging people to the checkout to skip a crappier page.

In this sense, you are not cloaking anything from anyone, since everyone sees the same thing.

Ergo, this would not cause issues with Facebook but if it is a non-compliant offer/vertical, Facebook can still catch you. If you want to run non-compliant offers on FB, be content with the fact that you will lose eventually.

No but I imagine it is a relatively simple combination of cookie drop + adding a querystring to the order page (i.e. ?hop=username)
