Books Vs Ebooks

Just wondering what people prefer, i love my ipad with all books that i have purchased but starting to find reading on a ipad is slow and i get distracted easy with other apps like email, stats, twitter etc...

Normal books are great too as i can read them whilst taking a shit or where ever with out access to emails, apps etc disturbing me, plus can lend them to friends

So i just been on amazon and bought a load books i have struggled to finish on the ipad as hard copies which made me wonder

Is it just me, or do you lot prefer real books instead of ebooks

I do a large amount of my reading on the stationary bike at the gym. I hop on it to warm up and before I know it 45 minutes have gone by and I got a nice warmup so I can lift heavy without injury. This is on a 4.3" Android phone and I have no problem reading entire book PDFs. I recently read the whole book Outliers on it. Just saying maybe it's not the device.

Maybe you should try...

not srs

I can't seem to read text on paper anymore. It's gotta be digital or my ADHD child inside comes out to play.

I hate reading on back lit screens like the iPad or iPhone for a long time.

However I find it very easy to read from my kindle. It's small / light and doesn't put any strain on the eyes since it uses e-ink.

Give it a go.

+1 for Kindle (the e-ink one, not the fire), in my opinion it's the best of both worlds.

It's just great if you are on a long trip, you can literally take 1000 books with you.

another vote for kindle.

i do miss having physical books though. i am one of those people who constantly flip back and forward and like making notes and annotations in the book while i read.

to get over that i always keep a notebook handy when i'm reading and take notes.

yeah everything has to be digital for me.. i tend to skim a lot to look for what I need

If all the text in a book is the same font size, I tend to fall asleep

I use both, but for preference I tend to like having reference material in paper form. It's much easier to flip back and forward through a paper book, dive off to consult another one whilst still having the first one open, etc.

Having said that, ebooks win on the space front. I read fast, so if I'm trying to learn something I'll usually buy the top 3-4 books on the subject and read them all. Do that a bunch of times a year and the storage space starts to become a problem...

Yeah, the storage space is a big problem if you read at least semi-consistently. A while ago I had to move twice over the course of 6 months and that was my personal "tipping point" to switch 100 % to Kindle.

I went through a phase where I switched to Kindle, but I've gone back to reading paper form.

There's something satisfying about paper in the hand. Plus I like the smell, and the arrival of Amazon boxes...

the arrival of Amazon boxes...
Yeah, there's definitely that. It's much more satisfying than just seeing something pop up on your Kindle.
