Ello (ello, ello, ello, aye. under my umbrella!) Ahem.
So, I've been primarily working on Facebook for my entire AM career. I've learned the ins and outs about as much as somebody can. I'm beginning to feel complacent and restless with it though. I'll work on Facebook until it's not viable but I'm long overdue to start learning other traffic sources. I try not to dabble in everything just because it's available, so I was wondering where you guys think I should promote next.
Is there a good traffic source similar to Facebook out there? Or, where can I apply what I've learned from FB the most without being overwhelmed?
Thanks!
If you're experienced with facebook and have accounts alive, there is no reason to go anywhere else imo. FB has one of the highest volume potentials out there, why are you interested in leaving it?
^^ Agreed. I really don't understand why people leave a source they are currently making money with and are extremely knowledgable about.
Facebook is very much its own beast. I can't think of any traffic source that is comparable.
I suppose you could say POF, but that's a fraction of the volume and it isn't blessed with the same 'creative license' that used to make it stand out.
Diversifying for the sake of diversifying isn't smart. But then again, if you have a good framework of how to make money with Offer X or Niche Y, then there's no reason why you can't port that over to other traffic sources. A good affiliate is going to make money on Facebook or off Facebook.
Logic says if you're looking for a new challenge, mobile platforms would be a good place to start.
I'd have to be dragged away from Facebook kicking screaming to ever leave it. If anything, I'm always working to do more and more business there. Like I said in the original post, I'm just trying to learn more. I'd like to find another traffic source that I can be successful with because it's a little uncomfortable having all of my eggs in one basket.
EDIT: To clarify a bit more - I'd be a lot more comfortable knowing that if FB blacklisted me tomorrow, I had another traffic source to work with while I figured out how to handle the FB situation.
If you want to be sure the traffic source is sill around by the time you get an eternal ban from fb.. go for mobile, it's a great investment.
I would say go for mobile too.
You are used to traffic sources that scaling is pretty easy and mobile is one of them.
If you can get a winning angle there is lots of room for scaling.
Also if you are creative and come up mostly with your own banners / landers , campaigns will last much longer on mobile since it's difficult to spy.
Thanks for all of the help! Sounds like it's time to study up on mobile.
Have you considered media buys? If you have all the demographic info and angles that are working for that demo, why not try to scale out your campaign through a targeted media buy.
