Got lucky with Sitescout Once

I still consider my self a newbie but one and half years ago when a started affiliate marketing I got lucky with my first campaign. After reading a lot about Media Buying I decided to join Sitescout. I'm a memeber of Peerfly so i decided to direct link a home depot gift card email submit. I used a 300x250 banner that I found on google images using the exact size option. I was targeting one site "frontdoor.com". I was paying $1.8 per CPM. To my surprise when I started getting impressions I was getting conversions. The campaign was on all day but i would only get impressions in the late afternoon. It would spend $20 and make me about $60, I thought this was going to be an easy job. That went on for 4 days. Then the offer stopped converting. So decided to move on to another offer same niche same site. That did not work. Next step was to move on to other sites but always have one site per offer. Well I never got another campaign to work, i spent about $1000 trying to get the same formula going but failed. I could never figure out if the problem was on Sitescout or CPA network side. So I gave up on Sitescout, I know there many ways of doing media buys but I moved on to PPV and PPC and also failed there. I took a break from affiliate marketing now i'm back.

I guess there is no point to what i said, I just wanted to get it off my chest.
My question is, I know most people don't recommend Sitescout to newbies. I would like to give Sitescout another try. So what are the niches that work the best for media buying? What type of affiliate networks work the best?

Nice story! I think that's the one problem with having quick winning campaign for noobs. Figuring out WHY it worked.

There is a nice thread here on Sitescout: http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...r-Media-Buying

Anyways from my quick observation, I may suggest you use more than 1 banner next time. Never stop optimizing and testing

On our self serve network the niches that are doing well are diet, dating, games and bizops. I don't think there is a best affiliate network for media buys.

Let me know if you want access to our platform, we are similar to Sitescout but without the strict ad approval process...

^^this

Awesome story! The success is addicting huh?

Keep learning though. Try to understand the process and keep testing.

1)Were you only testing 1 banner?
-If so, go make some new banners and test.

2)How many sites were you running the campaign on?
-If a couple, see which ones were converting and add similar ones
-Cut the ones that don't work

3)Test different networks with the same/similar offer

1) I did try at least 5 banners per campaign.

2) I did try several sites per campaign but one site at the time.
I kept getting just impressions. No clicks. I had nothing to scale on.

3) I think that is where my error was. I only used peerfly.

That was my first stint with affiliate marketing.
If i do decide to go back to media buying. I think I'm more prepared as far as understanding tracking and fraudulent publishers.
