Have you guys ever promoted Android apps outside Google Play ?
I read "Users are NOT sent to download on the Google Play, it can be downloaded independently"
I've tested the offer and it directly sends to my phone a .apk file instead of loading a google play page.
Isn't this seen as a security issue hence blocked on 99% of Android devices ?
I think some good antivirus offers I've tested in the past sent an apk straight away.
They used to convert fine so I think all is good.
Most apps that I promote are outside google play.
Winning because they actually try to 'sell' the app on their landing pages.
mobogenie and mobomarket in YeahMobi are direct to apk download, but we are seeing 200k downloads daily
do you have any simple lander to see?
Correct me if im wrong but the way i see it is this... An app must be signed to be allowed on google play (this isnt rocket science, i did it for a screensaver i made last year). If an app is signed it can also be promoted outside of google play without it raising the 3rd party app warning. What do people think?
mmm I don't know... downloading outside the play store.... without warnings
Straight downloads work great, just hard to find traffic sometimes that allows it.
you can kinda think of an .apk file (app) on android as you would an .exe in windows. installing an app from the play store is essentially just downloading the .apk file and installing it on the device through a trusted service. any app installation outside of the google play store has to be manually installed.
On top of this, by default, the installation of apps outside of the google play store is blocked, and the user must go into settings and allow the installation of apps from sources outside of the play store in order to install these apps.
Newer versions of android and browsers are even catching these .apk file downloads and alerting the user that the file 'may harm their device' before allowing the .apk to be downloaded.
