Hey guys! It's been a while since I did a follow along, all of which ended in the red on POF.
Now I've moved onto adult, I've been able to see the green and much quicker. Last month, I managed to profit $495 from this campaign I've been working on. Unfortunately, the offer stopped converting as well, so I'm sorta starting over with a new offer for the same demographic.
The traffic source is Traffic Junky. I'm going to keep a few details on the DL, but I hope this still might help some people out there with the optimization process and bidding.
My goal is to hit $100/day profit and maintain it. The issue I have right now is with frequency cap and traffic volume. I can get something like $20-$40/day profit after optimizing at a 3/day frequency cap, rotating 4 banners in each batch. I can only get like 8-10% of the traffic, even when I up my bids. Now, I want to experiment with removing the frequency cap and running something like 10+ banners in each batch. No frequency cap usually gives me like 60-70% of the traffic.
I'll consider yesterday as a new Day 1. I went from 3/day to no frequency cap in the evening. The campaign is currently running 14 ads, unoptimized. Here are my stats:
Cost: $54.99
Revenue: $68.25
Profit: $13.26
ROI: 24% ROI
Next Steps
1) Cut the lowest performing banners from the past 2 days
2) Test a new batch of banners today
My lander just works, so it's just a matter of finding the right banners that convert well.
Nice, looking forward to this follow along since I am exactly in the same situation. I stopped using TJ for a few months because bids were getting insane, so I just went to other less competitive sources.
I'm back with TJ now. I was just pondering about capping too.
If you want we can talk a bit on skype. My username is the.dillinger
I have been curious about # of banners and frequency as well. Please keep us updated!
@rafael - yeah, I was starting to see some traction on lower comp sources, but I was seeing more promise in my TJ campaigns. As dr_ngo says, focus on one traffic source, which is what I'm doing now. My downfalls in the past have been with trying too many traffic sources at once. Now I'm starting to see the nuances of TJ and my particular targeting.
I'll hit ya up on Skype later today.
@lanikai87 - will do!
Updates
I just submitted 20 new banners based off the info I learned from my recent batch. More care has been taken for these banners. Rather than just blindly testing whatever I could find (like back in my POF days lol), I have a reason behind each image/angle/banner style. Focusing on one main campaign with enough volume/spend per day is making this easier.
This time, I'm going to be a bit more methodical with my banner testing. I'm not sure if this is a good approach, so let me know if I'm not heading in the right direction.
My goal is to narrow down to 45 winning banners. 3 groups of 15 that I'll rotate daily. I'm hoping this would be enough to deal with the lack of a frequency cap.
So today I'll run only my new set of 20 for 2 days. Make note of the winners. Pause the 20. Then test another batch of 20 every 2 days until I have my ideal banners.
Success man,
It seems on TJ the conversions are way more easier.
I mean, it is less likely to invest $100 with $0 return on TJ than in other main adult networks.
Anyone agree?
Yeah doing fine just had a looong vacation to get a bit time off
The quote above I forgot 2x payout, fixed it now.
No matter you focus on CTR/Conversion rate, still both should be watched closely, you need to spend at least 2x the payout to get a clue. So if it's just 1 LP, definitely run at least $200 given your payout was $5.0 for 20 creatives and 1 LP. Hit me up on skype for a quick chat if you want bro! Running less than that will give you big risk of leaving potential winners out, just too volatile data. Imagine you've spent $8 with 1 conversion, just 1 more will make it to 25% positive from negative.
Spend: $158.80
Revenue: $117
This is Great man.
I've lost count of how many times I've done something like $ 50 spend to renevue $0 to $5 on another platforms.
@franz - I'll def hit you up man. That's sick you had a nice vacay. Hope you're ready to crush it now haha.
@rafa13 - yes, it's definitely a lot nicer than my initial campaigns. However, I've seen this campaign perform similarly with another offer. And a trend that doesn't surprise me popped up again for this offer.
My conversions dropped, and with the lack of frequency cap, my CTR's were halfed or worse, driving up my CPC's by 2 to 3 times.
Earlier, I did the math and to profit something like $100/day on this would require some ridiculous conversion rates that most likely wouldn't be sustainable. I've gotten close to $100 profit days with 3/day caps before there was more competition.
I'm going to try something similar to what guys on POF do/did. I'll stick to the 3/day frequency cap (as of 5pm EST), which has always performed the best for me with this campaign. Bidding double what my competition did (which didn't have a frequency cap) didn't get me that much traffic. What I'm thinking instead is running multiple campaigns for the same placement. Each will have a different angle.
It's something I've been wanting to try for a while. I'll start off with just 1 more campaign for this placement. If I do see an increase in traffic, then I'll add another until it doesn't really increase my bottom line. In addition, I'll be scaling this campaign to other placements/countries, which would easily bring me to $100/day profits.
Also got a $0.25 bump w00t w00t!
Sounds like a good plan - let us know how you get on!

Looking good! Just need a bump, a slight boost in CVR, or generally a tiny change in the wind for that to be solidly profitable!
PROFITABILITY.
I ran 6 placements total yesterday, and 3 weren't there in terms of volume and return. However 2 of the new, low volume placements had some promising results. These'll be placements 2 and 3. Running that second campaign for the first placement actually cut into my main campaign, but I believe I can get things to work eventually with bid layering (like camp 1: $0.56 CPM, camp 2: $0.50 CPM, etc).
Day 4 - Main Campaign
Spend: $27.75
Revenue: $45.50
Profit: $17.75
ROI: 63.4%
Day 4 - Placement 2
Spend: $0.48
Revenue: $7.00
Profit: $6.52
ROI: 1358.3%
Day 4 - Placement 3
Spend: $1.62
Revenue: $10.50
Profit: $8.88
ROI: 548.1%
Day 4 - Overall (all 6 campaigns)
Spend: $57.12
Revenue: $77.00
Profit: $19.88
ROI: 34.8%
Next Steps
I'll keep testing for the best banners. Once I have a good group of banners for each campaign, then I'll be split testing landers again.
Wow!
This kind of thing always give me more motivation.
Congrats man, wish you make it stable
Placement 2 - 1,358% ROI is one of those little golden nuggets that are great to fine tune, reverse engineer, and expand! It will be cool to see what you can pull out of placement 2 ???
Great follow along, really nice to see your progress! Just keep on going, I'm sure you will reach your goal in no time!

And that was a campaign of 15 banners, not just 1 ad. It just had the same signs of a great, low spend, high ROI campaign like some I had on POF. Some days wouldn't be profitable, but the days it did profit made up for the losses. Over a larger span of time, I can see this being very much profitable.Looking good! Some great tips here too - very interesting to see how a "POF-style" approach works on TJ!
Nice thread, I really like reading this stuff :-)
I am new to adult offers, so my question is similar to the question about network. Can you tell me what kind of offer is it? Of course I don't want exact offer, but for example is it webcam offer or some products for erection, etc? Thx :-) I am just thinking which type of offer to start with...
Nice progress mang!

Holy shit! Placement 3 had some pretty sweet ROI. It was converting like a mofo. The 2 campaigns for Placement 1 seem to be doing fine, and I should be able to narrow to my first batch of winning banners by tomorrow.
Gotta love being profitable while testing. There's so much I can do to optimize this campaign. I can sense $200 profit days once optimized.
And the best part of it all? I don't really see my daily spend increasing at this point.
Oh and there are still placements I haven't tried yet lol.
Next Steps
Cull banners for placement 1 and submit a fresh batch.
Keep running banners for the other placements.
Test out the other viable placements that won't cannibalize the results of my current campaigns.

Day 7 Overall
Spend: $95.47

Next Steps
Today I'll be culling ads that have 3 times the offer payout in spend. Hopefully I'll at least be able to have the first batch of winning ads for Placements 1A and 1B. The others will most likely require more time to gather enough data.
Upon culling ads, I'll be throwing in a new batch of banners for the campaigns that need them. The new batch will be based off the winning banners - style, image type, ad copy.
Got so close! I was profiting $113 during the afternoon, but my conversions dropped a bit later in the day. I think I know why...
Day 8
Placement 1A
Spend: $30.71
Revenue: $56.00
Profit: $25.29
ROI: 82.4%
Placement 1B
Spend: $30.70

ROI: 352%
Placement 4
Spend: $22.34

Profit: -$11.84
ROI: -53%
Day 8 Overall
Spend: $90.47
Revenue: $189.00
Profit: $98.53
ROI: 109%
Note: The revenue numbers of the 5 campaigns don't add up to $189. I have no idea where the other $17.50 came from. Maybe late conversions from older clicks?
Short by $1.47! Haha it's all good. My goal is to hit $100/day profit CONSISTENTLY. Not just some one-off thing
I think the main reason my profit went up was the culling of bad ads. It's amazing how I'm was profitable the day before despite having around 6 TERRIBLE ads in each campaign. That shows I definitely have loads of room for optimization left.
Regarding the drop in conversions...I feel part of it has to do with the number of ads I was running per campaign. I didn't cull any ads from Placements 2 or 3 as there wasn't enough data. I narrowed Placements 1A and 1B to 2 batches of 4 winning ads each (total of 8 ads for each camp), so I ran only 4 ads around midday yesterday.
Or so I thought.
Placement 1B actually had 5 by accident. I have a feeling that having more 4 ads for these campaigns should help with burnout on a 3/day frequency cap.
My guess is something around 6-10 ads is ideal. So today, I'll keep running batch #2 for 1A and 1B with 4 ads running to test my hypothesis. Thursday, I'll run all my new ads and narrow down to batches of 6 ads.
Placement 4 resulted at a loss because I kept running the same 4 banners. My fault.
It's all good, as I'll be uploading more ads today for Placement 4.
I'll continue to run the other placements as is.
Next Steps
-Test to see if 4 ads in a campaign will result in lower conversion rates (these are with proven banners).
-Test the conversions of 6 ads in a campaign
-Test more than 7+ winning ads if 6 ads don't work
-Gather 3 batches of winning ads to rotate
-Profit $100/day consistently
-Test landers

Day 9 Overall
Spend: $83.86
Revenue: $143.50
Profit: $59.64
ROI: 71.1%
I had slight drop in profit, which is understandable, as I was running 20 fresh banners for Placement 4 and I'm running only 4 banners for Placements 1A and 1B. Also, it was Wednesday. No biggie
From a quick look at the data (not a detailed look), there are just fluctuations with my "winning" banners for the Placement 1A and 1B campaigns. A few are still proven winners, while more traffic showed others weren't too great.
My gut instinct is telling me that around 5 banners per campaign should be enough, but they should really be battle tested. If that's the case, then my goal is to find 15 winning banners before split testing landers again.
I expect some losses in the coming days while testing for new banners.
Next Steps
Keep testing banners.
Test out a mobile adult campaign on TJ. I ran this offer before on desktop traffic, but the conversions sucked. I was just slightly at a loss. Close to break even with barely any optimization. It's actually a mobile offer which my affiliate manager said was okay to run on desktop traffic. I want to see if my conversions will increase if I target the required carriers on mobile only.
Day 10

Still stoked I'm profitable with the continual testing of new banners. I'll be running these banners throughout the weekend. Hopefully by Monday I'll have my 3 batches of banners to rotate.
Any updates brah?
Blah awesome !!! much inspirational thread.
mark...
Any update on your journey, would be great to know. Hope you are staying successful.
I know this is an old thread and machete stop updating it 3 years ago, but I'm just wondering if anyone can help me understand what he meant when he said
"run 15 banners, find the winners, run another batch, find the winners, then rotate them"?
What exactly did he mean by that?
Did he run 15 banners, find the best 5, pause all the banners, then run another set of 15 ads (new ones), test them, find the best 5, then just ran the first best 5 from the first test, then pause them after a couple of days, then resume the second best 5 and just keeps on doing the same thing over and over.... and he did this every couple of days? Is this what he meant by "rotating ads"??
I hope someone can make sense of what I just wrote above.
