POF newbie

Hello,

I've started my first POF campaigns one week ago. I'm learning a lot but right now I'm losing money and I don't really know how to make it work / profitable ?

Could you give some advice on how to make your POF campaigns profitable ?

Thanks for your time

First, considering that PoF has less traffic than, say, Facebook, you don't want to test too many things at once. If you try to test 5 ad texts with 20 images in each text, it's going to take a long time to get enough impressions to see what is working and what isn't. I tend to start with two ad texts, and 5-10 images per text depending on the size of the demographic I'm targeting. After the images get some traffic you can see what's working and what isn't, pause the ads that aren't doing well and rotate in new images. After a while you can see which text does better out of the two, pause the "loser" and rotate in a new ad text using the images that you know work well. Then continue to rotate in new images as you go.

It's really, really helpful to use PoF conversion tracking to figure out who, exactly, inside of your targeted demographic is converting for you. A lot of networks have offers that won't let you use two image pixels, so you can't use your prosper/cpvlab/whatever pixel and the PoF pixel. The easy way to deal with this - use the PoF pixel and manually update SubIDs once a day in your tracking software. Takes a little more time but it's easy enough. The other option is to make a simple PHP file with all your image pixels inside the BODY tags. Then you have the affiliate network use the url of that php file as a postback url. This has worked for me in the past but I can't guarantee it will work for you, so make sure you test it before letting it run for a long time.

Without more information it's really hard to give you any specific advice. Obviously you don't want to out your offer, targeting or ads. But if you want to post an example of what your ad text is like I'd be happy to give you some pointers. Without seeing them the best I can suggest is try to include the token tags they let you use. They have tags for state, age and gender. You use them like this:

{state:your area} will display their state, or if its not set, the phrase "your area". You can replace "your area" with whatever you want. For example, if they're from New York and your text says:

Meet women from {state:your area} tonight!

It would display "Meet women from New York tonight!" instead.

The other two variables are {age:something} and {gender:something} and these will display the users age, and gender, respectively. You can replace "something" with whatever you want it to display if the user's age or gender isn't available.

Something I learned recently that was really helpful for tracking was that you can use those tokens in your URL too. So if your tracking url is whatever.com/202/something.php?subid= and you're targeting Men, 25-29 in the USA, you can set your url to ?subid={gender:Male}{age:25-29}{state:NoState} and each click will use the persons gender, age and state as the subid. Then when you check your stats later, you can see who is clicking on your ads, and between that and the PoF conversion tracking, you should have a pretty damn good idea of which users are going to be profitable and which aren't. This helps to tighten your targeting when you get done testing.

Sorry to anyone who reads that wall of text, I know a lot of it is basic stuff but hopefully it will help someone. Good luck with your ads nils.

Hey thanks for the valuable advice,

Sure, I don't mind outing my offer since it isn't profitable.
I've made some screenshoots from one of my campaigns ( I have three running at the moment - 1) How to build muscle 2) How to lose fat 3) How to seduce men - all CB offers. )

It's a CB offer for women who want to seduce men.
This is my ad copy:

I currently have no clue on how to write powerful ad copy ( but I'm working on it reading Ogilvy and Claude Hopkins ). All I did was scrape some copy from the sales letter of the vendor.

The Headline " Attract men like a magnet " didn't convert at all ( ~1000 impressions) and the other 3 had 1-2 CT per 1000 impressions.

These are the ads I use ( I currently only have access to 110x80 ads )

Demographics:

My CPM is 0.42$ and my CTR is 0.068% - 45 k Impressions - ~ 31 Clicks
No conversion. Could it be that I'm promoting a CB product ?

Thanks for your help and ANY input appreciated.

Cheers

Dude that's awesome! Didn't know they worked in the url as well. Props for that tip.
