Im just wondering if stackers have "fully managed" hosting or are they not managed? I really didnt know what this meant, until I had inquired about a folder on my server to my hosting company, and they checked the folder itself for me.. when I asked how they got access, they said I was on a fully managed account. This caught me off guard since I thought only i could access my files/folders.. but now Im wondering if I should ask to switch this to unmanaged, or am I being overly paranoid if this is normal.? Thanks
Completely normal. Stick with managed hosting!
You can save a lot by choosing an unmanaged hosting package but it usually ends up being a lot of work unless your familiar with server maintenance. I tried it once and it ended up being a headache so managed is usually a good way to go for most people
Managed hosting cost a little more but the support is so worth it.
Don't worry about "prying eyes" from your hosting company. Unmanaged or managed makes no real difference - if they want to look at your server content they could, so there is no point being paranoid about it.
Agreed.
There have been multiple threads from the uber-coder types over at Hacker News asking if there's any way to secure a VPS - managed or unmanaged - from its hosting company.
The short answer is "no".
The long answer is "noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooo"
Just stick with brands you can trust.

Honestly, I'd say your at more risk at an unmanaged provider. I know a lot of people in the hosting world and would say those doing unmanaged really don't care about their customers.
Managed = your name.
