Blue Ocean Strategy
I was thinking that it would make an awesome thread if we could get some feedback from affiliates who have used the "Blue Ocean Strategy" successfully, and maybe get some examples of how they put it to use.
For those of you who have not heard of Blue Ocean Strategy it is a book that gives insight on how you can use your strengths and creativity to define new untapped markets.

I know there are a few people in this forum that have practiced this strategy. Hopefully they stumble on this thread.

Can you sum up the concept of it, never heard of it and the website doesn't explain much in short.

From what I understand; The book teaches you how to create your own untapped market (Blue Ocean) in a competitive blood bath market (red ocean). So a way to take a competitive demographic and turn it into a less competitive demographic. I believe @kokofai has used Blue Ocean Strategy before with success.

It's one of those books I've seen quite often but never taken the plunge with.
I thought it was more to do with product management and positioning in the marketplace?
Has a decent rating on goodreads so I'm going to pick up a copy on my next Amazon binge!

Essentially sounds like creating an angle in a niche.
ie: DATING
Blue ocean: Lesbian Dating or BDSM Dating
I have a feeling a book isn't needed for this.

As I was typing it out, that is what it sounded like to me too lol . But, I was thinking/hoping that there may be some powerful thought processes or mindsets that the book outlines.
P.S. I know what your thinking " Why don't you just read the book and find out for yourself?" I was hoping someone that read the book could translate to how the methods could be applied to affiliate marketing. *cough* @kokofai *cough*

yea kokofais thread is where I first heard about the book! I haven't read more than the first 2 chapters but from what I read it talks a lot about coming up with angles that will help minimize costs and risks.. I remember they used circus de soleil as an example and there are tons throughout the book along with graphs and strategies
If you haven't read the book yet Cashvertising is a great read

I will give someone (1) free thanks, if they read the book and read an affiliate marketers version of an A.D.D summary. Surely there is more too it than just trying niche campaigns?

I read it many years ago, I think i still remember something
It's not just about creating niches (niches = limited amount of customers).
Page 118 of the book (page 135) and Appendix A are a concise explanation of the concept

I hope they're recommending finding those things out by actually trying them in the market, rather than just deciding yes/no yourself!
For starters, most entrepreneurs get their expectations of reasonable pricing terribly, terribly wrong at first...

Hey hey I hear you guys!
In short, it's about creating a unique angle and market the same thing to your audience. Blue ocean = audiences who have never exposed to this angle before. Red ocean = what everyone is running now.
A very good example would be the adult vertical now, whereby everyone is using "this site has sexually explicit photos of someone you may know". The angle that being employed on this headline is that, it tells people you "could see profiles that you may know". I believe many of us, at least for once, would want to fuck people around us. Be it a friend in uni, or a hot girlfriend of your best buddy. That's why this angle works so well. So it was a "blue ocean" for people who have adapted it. However, the market had already turned into a "red ocean".
To conclude things, you got to find your own unique angle so that you don't need to compete with anybody else. Well, at least that's what i did previously.
Peace!
