Facebook EU VAT question...

Hey all,

For those of you running multiple FB accounts from an EU country. How do you deal with the issue of Irish VAT? Is it ok to use the same VAT number across multiple accounts, or do you just take the 23% hit?

Thanks in advance for any help.

afaik you can reclaim VAT from the local authorities as long as you are VAT registered.

As I am not an expert though your best bet will be to talk to an accountant.

Hey Andy,

Thanks for your response.

My question was driving at whether or not using the same VAT number in multiple accounts (which exempts you from VAT being added to your ad spend) is a flag in Facebook's system, as operating multiple accounts is in violation of their Terms of Service and would result in an account(s) ban.

Perhaps I should rephrase the question; "Is it safe to use the same VAT number across multiple FB accounts?"

I got your question, so maybe my answer wasn't phrased correctly

I don't know if Facebook will flag your account because of duplicate VAT numbers, but I guess they will. Just wanted to let you know that afaik there are ways to reclaim VAT after you have paid it to Facebook, might be a "safer" alternative.

Thanks again Andy. I'll give my accountant a call. I know he'll pick up the phone because I owe him some money!

In a perfect world it would be possible to use the same VAT number across multiple accounts, so if anybody has managed to do this then please let me know as it would make my life very much simpler.

Hey Andy,

I think that I've answered my own question:

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/managing/...as-traders.htm

To claim back the VAT you'd need an invoice from the company (Facebook) with your own VAT number on it. Unfortunately this is a non-starter as they'd wonder why you didn't go for the zero rated option (by putting in your VAT number in the first place).

Do I win a prize for the most boring post of the day?!
