To cloak or not to cloak... Hmmm

Hey guys,

I'm almost ready to post up my follow along. For the past two weeks I've read as much as I can to learn about FB and specifically doing dating on FB.

So far I've done the following -
- Picked my traffic source
- Picked my offer
- Bought the domain
- Installed Prosper on the domain
- Set up the campaign in Prosper
- Written out my copy
- Chose my images
- Bought some accounts to test with

Now I'm at the final step before I put it all together and am on the fence about whether I need a cloaker or not. I don't mind getting banned or dissaproved. I just want to get things started and get some experience under my belt. I am a pretty risk tolerant person so I feel the risk in using a cloaker would be worth the reward to me, once I learn the ropes on how to do it properly.

So I wanted to get your opinion on this. Should I cloak or not? Keep in mind I'm targeting dating on FB and from what I've been reading FB has a big issue with dating affiliates on the site.

Any recommendations on cloakers if you're with it? NOIP said they're full and no more spots

You don't necessarily need to cloak on FB with dating.. As long as you DMR your link, you should last as long or longer then, with cloaking.. There's pros and cons to cloaking. You can do ANYTHING you want, hide everything, or go more legit, and over the long run, you'll come out with more BRICKS..

Keep this in mind.. It don't really matter who starts the race, (bunch of people jump in thus guy daily) what matters MOST is who's at that finish line..

Do what you want, but I'm just saying, think long term, and you'll get long term results. You want short term, that's what you'll get.

Whatever you decide to do, just KEEP GOING. Decide on what you want, AND GO GET IT!

..zip..

Back to the Batcave.

Thank Imtheone. Good advice. I definitely do want to make this a long term thing. I'll look into getting the double meta refreshes in place.

How about both?

Run some accounts cloaked others not. Diversity will keep you sane in this business.

I agree. If you can do both and keep it completely seperate do so!

You'll find the positives and negatives of both, you'll be testing more and eventually you'll find what you like to do more/whats most lucrative for you.

What is cloaking?

It means Facebook reviewers see one thing, while everyone else sees another. An example is lets say we're running a "clean" dating offer, but it has a yellow mywot score which means it won't be approved. We can send he reviewers to eHarmony instead, while everyone else goes to your dating offer.

How is it achieved?

A good cloaking software combines various methods. One is they collect ip addresses of known Facebook reviewers. This is as simple as submitting ads and pausing them, and then you record all the IP's that visited your page into a database. You can also catch someone as a reviewer through referral URL's "dev.facebook.com". There's a ton more ways to flag

Downsides of cloaking

bleed rate - the cloaking software are not 100% accurate so you'll have "real" visitors going to the wrong page. This can be as high as 10% of your traffic being loss. If you spent $1000, you can lose $100 of traffic due to bleed rate. There's also extra setup. Some of the cloaking software can be expensive if you can't make your money back.

Where to get cloaking software?

No one openly advertises it anymore. You have to know someone who knows someone basically.

My suggestion is don't think about cloaking if you don't even have access or the ability to run multiple accounts. The nature of Facebook is accounts get banned sooner or later no matter what, and the winners are the ones who can come back from bans.

Also there is tons of money to be made WITHOUT cloaking.

A cloaker's NOT a magic bullet. If you don't know how to bid, or get high ctr's, the best cloaker in the world won't make you money.

Is it worthwhile getting an agency account and promote that way?

Though cloaking is not magic bullet, i will never run any ad without cloaking. I always cloak Ads. Even if they are legit.
