Is it just me or are good French CTRs much harder to pop than the rest of Europe?
I'm completely bamboozled by this market.
Both LP and offer are killing it.
But seemingly every ad variation I try is flatlining around 0.3% CTRs. Anybody had trouble cracking these Frenchies?
i'd be bloody happy at 0.3 lol
edit: thought this was FB....... fail
Had similar problems in the French market. It could just be a cultural issue and how they perceive online hookups. Apparently up to 40k students in FR turn to prostitution to pay university fees. From experience they seem to be a lot more promiscuous and open than other cultures (which would indicate more of a response to your ads?) Perhaps there is some stigma around the online hookup game. I'm sure some French guys around here will give more helpful advice.
On a similar note the last campaign I tried to port to France on Facebook had CTRs of .1/2 in most other countries and only managed .07 in France.
I've gotten consistent CTR's of 0.4+ in France. Not sure what I did specifically besides throw a ton of shit at the wall and see what sticks. Always go with Gif banners if the advertising platform allows it.
I'm trying to figure out Germany right now. My high CTR French banners (same images and translated or similar banner copy) aren't performing well in DE at all. Looks like I'll have to test a shit load of banners again and find what works in DE lol.
IMHO, as a french I can tell, there is a HUGE difference between a french and an american/australian/english boy.
French are very, very, very skeptical.
And they hate being marketed.
Money is taboo in France, everything that is close to capitalism/money/marketing has so bad reputation...
Don't forget that you're targeting a country that has been the birthplace of communism.
All the leaders from Soviet Russia have made their class in France.
Also, you're targeting the most socialist country in the world, marketing has a very bad reputation in this country.
Companies are taxed around 67.5% + more than 30% on personal income for the company owner, and everyone in France finds that it's fine, as long as this money pays for their non productive life.
I mean, come on, I'm sure most of you can relate how unprofessional and execrable are restaurant or shop owners in France, if you have visited this country.
As you can see, marketing is not a priority to French
My advice is: maybe try to sell benefits that are not "too good to be true".
Also, there is something very important that I have already noticed on your creatives you non-french marketers.
Don't forget that French is a very rich language.
The majority of the banners I can see contains a lot of typos, or words that are totally inaccurate for the message you're trying to pass.
For example, I know at least 40 different words to say "fuck". No kidding, I litterally can say this word in 40 different ways in French.
Be sure to work with native speakers and maybe tell them to unleash their creativity using the local slang as most as possible.
If you want my advice on your copy, don't hesitate. I mean, not giving me your creatives, but just telling you if the "idea" behind the copy is accurate or not, I can help.
Yep. I had a bunch of Facebook campaigns that did great in every country besides France.
