Question on LP domain and P202

Hey guys,

I'm in the process of setting up an LP for an offer. Two questions:

1) Say I have a VPS with Beyond Hosting, purchased together with a very generic domain name xyz.com. If I'm setting up an LP for a weight loss offer, should I buy a new domain that's relevant to the offer (eg. loseweightnow.com) and set up the LP there? The thinking is to basically buy a cheap domain for whatever offer I'm promoting, and have it point to the VPS. Is this the right way to go about it?

2) I've asked Beyond Hosting to help me install P202 and was asked whether I wanted it in the root or the subdomain. I'm guessing root is the way to go?

Sorry if these has been discussed somewhere. Didn't seem to find anything from browsing previous threads. Might've missed it.

Thanks!

1) That's what I tend to do, yes. I don't have solid numbers on this, but my gut feeling is that an appropriate domain helps conversions a bit.

2) Up to you - depends on how you intend to organise your campaigns. If you're buying separate domains for your campaigns you can stick P202 in the root and then stick your campaigns on your other domains.

Don't worry about asking questions, whether they might have been discussed before or not! Obviously doing a quick search is appreciated, but if you can't find the answers from that, ask away. There are no stupid questions - we're here to help you succeed.

Hey , I would start with a generic domain first. From my tests the domain doesn't make a huge difference.

If you see the campaign in profitable then I would buy a proper domain.

As for prosper , either subdomain or root is fine , won't make a change.

I am at the same stage now, creating LP's and then adding the P 202 info.
I have 5 landing pages, P202 is in a subdomain, homepage is set up for SEO and the landing pages will be post linked to my homepage.
I am using a wordpress setup, so adding additional pages will not be an issue.
I might be overcomplicating things, but each LP will will have 5 variations (same theme different images) which gives me a lot of variables to work with.

The wordpress theme is cleaned out without the bells and whistles, but I am looking at organic traffic in addition to my paid traffic. Will post more info on my follow along page.

My advice is to get onto all the complex stuff first like LP design, copy, images and tracking. You can always tweak the domain name later if you need to.

Thanks, mate. All that has already been done without any obvious issues. Now if FB would just approve my ads so I can see for sure that everything's working properly! They're taking so long...

@happymexican - one side point: is your Wordpress setup on the same server as your P202 tracking? If so, I'd look at moving the P202 tracking to a separate server when you can - getting hacked through a Wordpress installation is one of the most common ways of having your tracking security breached.

@caurmen,

i have P202 set up on BeyondHosting.
I have another server where I have my normal sites and thinking of using BH only for my AM websites/landing pages.

The main reason why WP is getting hacked is because some people do not change the user name and keep it at "ADMIN", by doing that you are already giving the hacker a 50% change in hacking into your WP.
Both username and pw are using the combinations of Capital letters, numbers and symbols ie $ # / @ etc
If I have to use the same server, I am making it as difficult as possible for any hacker to access my info.
