Follow Along - $1M Revenue in 5 Months (22)

Follow Along - $1M Revenue in 5 Months

I've just signed up and some may say that I'm crazy for using the above title and I agree with them.

But I'm only crazy because I chose to settle for way too long. I chose to procrastinate. I chose to step back. I chose to allow negative habits to stymie my growth and delay the financial freedom my wife, daughters & parents so very much deserve.

As a consultant, I've done fairly well over the years (by the average man's standards). Let me break down my earnings as a consultant for you:
2010 - $37k
2011 - $60k
2012 - $90k

Though decent, it's not good enough and between everyone and me, in the back of mind, I had a goal way back in 2009 to 'make a million dollars before I was 30'. The conversation was borne out of a discussion I had with my wife about how much I'd like to join the Armed Offenders Squad (New Zealand's equivalent of S.W.A.T. I guess). Now I certainly do not want to risk being apart from my little girls but a man (especially a stubborn man) sometimes needs to just have that option.

So it's on that note that I create this thread and commence my journey too.

I realise there are several things I will need in order to accomplish this and implore the community to contribute their own thoughts on the matter. Here is my brief list of what is required of me:

For & against, I acknowledge all correspondence on this thread and look forward to the journey. If you have advice which may assist me in attaining any of the above, I appreciate your contribution.

Loving life!

Progress Report:
I have the first resource I require - "Knowledge of a primary traffic source, testing, offers, creatives, etc" - as contained within STM Forum

WINNING! HA!

Nice title you got there. Basically go big or go home huh

Anyway 1M in 5 months is not impossible as long as you pick the right traffic source and offers.

You want a traffic source that allows scaling and an uncapped offer that converts well.

For traffic sources to achieve this I would say you can choose between Adwords / FB / Mobile ( many sources ) / Adult.

For adult though it's tough to find uncapped good offers so your best bet would be picking one of the first three.

After you have decided this start asking your AMs for the top volume offers and see if you notice a trend by the responses of different network.

The last and most important step of course is testing testing testing until you are in the green.

Thanks bbrock32,

You're right about going big. Between sleep I allowed my mind to wander along the same vein of thought in my other online endeavors. I thought 'Man, if I can go big here, why don't I go big in other areas too?' i.e. Consulting, Personal website projects, Info products.

But with anything, it's to focus, focus, focus so I'll master this first then consider my options. Grabbing my VPS today and will catch up on the other loose ends too.

Took bbrock32's advice and chose FB as my traffic source. Got in touch with a couple of my existing AMs, asking them about top volume offers. Also applied to all the recommended Aff networks and have one rep from F5 who will hopefully push me in the right direction.

With so much to learn, I chose to purchase my VPS through beyond hosting. One step forward.

Would someone kindly translate 'rebills cloaked' part:
"Dating and Daily Deals for sure, unless you run rebills cloaked as well"

Rebill offers are the offers you see where a user can get a 'free' (ahem) trial by just paying the $4.95 shipping and handling charge. They then get billed $xx a month if they don't cancel within x days. In theory this is fine, but a lot of advertisers were billing the user before they could cancel, or could not be contacted very easily when the user tried to cancel.

FB, Google and others don't like these types of offers, so you have to cloak. This requires special software that essentially re-directs FB ad reviewers to a different site than the one your customers will be seeing.

Exactly what Nick said , showing the reviewers a fake page and sending users to the real lander ( flog etc ).

However cloaking requires lots of experience and tools. I wouldn't dabble in it until you have a good grasp of FB itself ( i.e you spent $xxx, xxx there already ).

This stuff is...AWESOME!!

^^YEP

I started Facebook from day one about 5 years ago.

Go whitehat first, learn the system, lose some $ testing, THEN when you have a good grasp you'll know what to do from there. You seem to understand everything so far, so the only next major step is just testing a BUNCH of campaigns; images, landing pages and offers on Facebook and feeling out the systen for a month while trying to get 1 of your test campaigns to break even/go in the green.

thanks Stackman. I've chosen to test out weight loss and dating offers initially, going through a 'rules' LP. Using POF spy tool and a couple client accounts (as they fit the demographic I'm targeting) as research on what's currently being advertised. Will customise and test images.

Goal is to set up dating campaigns first. Collecting images now.

Just make sure you don't push it too much with images.

Dating is borderline accepted atm in FB and could get your account banned easily.

Hey guys,

I had two of my dating offers disappear in the turn of the month so to get the ball rolling, I decided to set up a weight loss offer today. Haven't used Prosper202 since last year and never used pixel tracking so the tutorial is great. A question:
- Do I need to buy an SSL certificate on my domain for pixel tracking to work when pasting my code into F5 Media tracking system?
- Also, I've noticed another marketer pushing a different offer but it goes through a tab which has a 2-3 second delay on it before automatically redirecting to an LP. Does a redirect on an FB Page tab violate ad terms or is it fine?

You don't necessarily need it, it depends on the offer and the network (talk to your AM). Some networks allow pixels only on SSL certified domains, others just have specific offers that require it.

Most of the time you should be fine without it though.

Thanks Andyvon,

Launched 1 campaign last night.
2xHeadlines
2xBody
2xImages
In hindsight, I may split into 2 campaigns now. Also need to collect another 10 or so images to test as well (in keeping with other follow alongs I've seen shared here). Budget is set to $50 per day. I've noticed however that my recommended CPC is $0.71-$120 and that's to a Facebook tab which has a redirect app pointed to the offer.

Imagine

Direct linking at the moment and waiting for ads to get approved after being disapproved several times initially for having 'unrealistic claims' or something.

I am on the fast track to my goal after submitting several ads to Facebook!

Had 3 ads created for an offer and promptly had my account disabled with questions. Reason cited is:
-------------------------------
Disabled Payments and Ads Manager

We have detected unusual payment or login activity on your account or have received a dispute on charges. As a result, your account has been disabled to protect your personal and financial information. In order for us to re-enable your account, you will need to answer the following questions.

Any recommendations on whether I just approach this 100% above board or use caution? http://screencast.com/t/8QJNsksWFedk

If dating is borderline accepted on FB, weight loss is printed on a picture of Osama bin Laden and hung by the desks of every FB ad reviewer.

Holy, sooooo confused then. Here I was, thinking weight loss was more acceptable than dating. This nut may need more thinking before cracking...

This is a good thread for you - http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...highlight=zeno

Thanks. I can see I have a long way to go to get to the level (or approval rates) of FB ads run by other marketers here. Was just mulling over the fact that I'd just gone over the "Mega CTR" thread only to be under review btu checking out the offer thread should be a good diversion for me

No sooner had I started, I am promptly stopped with the email from Hudson from FB Risk Management. Going through FB account banned thread now and will get clued on the next step forward.

Anyone had this situation:

1. "For security reasons, any ads you're running will be paused..."
2. http://screencast.com/t/Wp7BZDdAwq

So even though I can't access ad manager, they are still running my ads! which means I have no idea what to do other than continue resubmitting my passport... what the?!
