Adult Dating / General Success Diary

Refreshed and Ready

I think it's appropriate that I should start a Follow Along after having my "sensitive sally" rant over at the "Introductions" forum:

http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...-over-again...

Now that I've gotten the ball rolling again, I need to start documenting what I've been doing.

I just started promoting CPA offers last month and I heard that Adult Dating was hot, so that's where I started. I remember telling that to Eleah from Adsimilis and her reply was "Wow. Welcome to 2012". Thanks EP. lol

I guess I've totally been out of the loop.

Starting Adult Dating

Anyway, since I didn't really have any experience in regular dating or adult dating, I decided to just throw things out there... just to get an idea of what the space was all about.

I started with TrafficJunky / PornHub (I actually had some budget in there after all these years from running Muscle Building offers) and started with different international web offers.

I got a few conversions here and there, but nothing profitable. I couldn't really get into the mindset of the demographic.

Girlfriend catches me surfing Porn

Girlfriend: What are you doing??
Me: It's research. I swear!
Girlfriend: seriously?
Me: Yeah, I'm promoting adult web dating offers. I need to learn how they think and what their hot buttons are
Girlfriend: Oooh I love it. Let's have a threesome

Well that last line was in my head, but we're all dreamers right?

After explaining what I was trying to do, she was actually VERY helpful.

So I enlisted the help of my girlfriend since she had years of sales experience.

She brought a different perspective though. She's used to dealing with people 1 on 1, and she basically was taking that kind of approach.

To be continued...

Data Collection

My girlfriend asked me to collect some data for her, so this is what I did:

I basically ripped the same creatives and LP that I would see on the different porn sites. Then I added a survey script at the end of the 3 questions to store the data into a database.

The 3 questions, originally, were "are you age 25+", "do you have STDs?", and "Are you going to wear a condom?"

I replaced it with these 3 questions:

1. How old are you?
2. What is your relationship status?
3. What are you looking for?

This is the data we collected:

Now, I did notice there are some discrepencies in the data that don't add up. For example, one person put "single", but he was looking for an "affair". So obviously he's lying somewhere.

But generally, I think after collecting this information, it seems to be fairly insightful.

If you look closely, you can get an idea of the different "pockets" of groups.

Girlfriend Perspective

I gotta give credit to my girlfriend for helping me out with this information. She really has grasp on people and sales psychology.

She was able to dice it down and even "personify" the different groups.

Example #1: she called the "18-24, Single, One Night Stand" guy, Mikey.

Mikey is horny and wants to party. He's looking to score with the ladies with no strings attached.

Example #2: How about the "50-60, Married guy that wants an Affair". We named him Roger (After Roger Sterling Mad Men)

Since we started to understand our demographic, we were able to come up with some angles that catered specifically to those groups.

So right now, I'm still doing more testing, but I'm closer to break even than before.

Very cool.

My advice is to keep going with your database tracking. Whatever you see as a winner you can use as an angle for your creatives. One tip I can give is to focus more on guy #2 because he's the kind of guy that would actually pay $ to upgrade on the site. More sales = higher quality = you don't get kicked off the offer.

Another consideration is you can segment the answers and funnel them through to different offers. If someone is interested in an affair, there are offers for local cheating housewives. If they want a one night stand, there are offers more designed for one night stand.

Going the extra mile is what will separate you from another copy / paste traffic junky affiliate. Anyways keep updating this thread and I will provide whatever feedback I can.

This is fucking brilliant Jasp! Really really interesting.

One thing that confuses me is when people say "affair" does that mean they want to cheat on their partner, or do they want to have sex with someone who cheats on their partner?

Gotta love your strategy for approaching campaigns, very unique.

Yeah I could imagine the older demographic having higher quality. Someone younger is probably just looking for an easy lay and wouldn't want to pay for it. If you're old married guy, you probably don't have time to screw around. Probably need to just find the easiest resource for getting an affair even if it means paying for it.

I'm going to test more things and see what angles and funnels make the most sense.

It was Azineth's idea. She could probably be a really good affiliate marketer. hah

Also, you know what... That's a good point. I didn't even think about it at the time with the "affair" question, but that might explain the "single, looking for an affair" responses.

I remember looking at the data and I was thinking, "LIES!". lol

But maybe they really are single and want women who are married or in a relationship.

Dude! This is awesome! I love these kind of research stuff... I admit that I should really do some more (marketing) research before starting a campaign. Profiling and segmenting your audience into personas is so powerful. Also, if you can find their motivation to buy with further research, you can improve your lead quality for each of your personas (assuming that it's not always the older age which leads to better lead quality).

08-27-2013 10:49 AM #7 caurmen (Administrator)

Fantastic stuff. We should all do this kind of research more!

And the sales persona stuff is very powerful too. I've used it a bit in AM, but not in the data-driven way you and your gf are doing it here.

Looking forward to hearing how it shakes out as you keep testing!

This is great idea you've got.

I think you are doing far more than the average adult affiliate. T
he only thing I would suggest is to make sure you are getting the highest payouts possible.

Try reaching the advertisers directly and ask for bumps.

Also it's worth testing different paths for different answers people submit.

I'd say an affair is something when a person is looking for "just not one night stand". A kind of regular sex dates, kind of thing. I'm not an dating expert. Its just my understanding of the concept.

With that research you will have $x,xxx/day
in couple of months, if not less.
Anyone wanna bet? <--- serious

Also, big + for having your gf OK with adult.
I had to quit adult, cos mine didn't get it.

Good luck on your coming back

Just got a $0.50 pay bump on Just Hookup. I'll try direct, but doesn't most companies pay net 15/30? I could use the weekly cash flow if I can get to $1k per week

I'm definitely looking into redirecting offers based on different answers.

Yeah it helps if your partner supports your "marketing" efforts

Me: "To get into the mind of the consumer, you gotta be like the consumer."

*fapping vigorously*

Me: "Wait... what's this? dating ad?"

*clicks on ad, signs up for offer*

lol. Anyway, thanks for the kind words man.

Hey man, how do you collect data in a survey? Where and how does it get stored?
<--coding newb

I created my own custom code for it, but there are free solutions out there:

Open Source Survey Software (PHP)
http://www.limesurvey.org
http://www.ohloh.net/p/phpesp

You can even post data to an Email Marketing Manager:
http://www.phplist.com/
http://www.openemm.org/

I'll do a "how to" in the future once I get this process down.

Quick Update

A few days ago, I teamed up with 4 other STM members in the forum to do a mastermind. A couple of us are going to be tackling TrafficForce as a main traffic source.

I'll be focusing on the following:

Country: Mobile AU
Phones: Android/iPhone
Current Bid: $0.40 CPM

I've just started the campaign up yesterday at the minimum bid:

Date: 8/30/2013
Clicks: 4
Impressions: 916
Spend: $0.14
Conversions: 0
Revenue: $0.00

So i'm getting traffic now. I moved my bids up by $0.10 to see how much traffic I can get.

Beautiful! With this type of psychographics you have a huge heads up on the competition when coming up with angles and your copy for ads/landing pages.

I havn't done this, but if you have the time: split test Android and iPhone and then make custom pages for each that share features of the phone your advertising to. ie: an Android features on your page only for Android phones.

Just popping back in, I suppose you could just use something like survey monkey to collect this sort of data eh?

09-03-2013 07:13 AM #17 bbrock32 (Administrator)

TrafficForce is decent but don't expect huge traffic.

That coupled with the fact that AU is a pretty "small" country is going to make it hard for you to collect data.

I would go for another country if you want to run on TrafficForce.

Yeah, you could pretty much use anything that allows you to post to their database. Survey services, ESPs, etc

I haven't verified it, but I believe you can do that with SurveyMonkey.

Yeah I learned from Ross at TF that AU is pretty competitive, plus I can't really fit a large survey into a mobile LP.

I'm rethinking my strategy right now...

I would go for medium competition , decent sized countries like UK / DE / FR / IT.

I'm thinking UK or US.

US seems competitive, but there's a lot of traffic to scale from. So if I can get a leg up on the competition somehow, I have a lot of room for growth and scale.

Any thoughts on US?

09-05-2013 07:48 PM #22 stackman (Administrator)

^^ You'll need a leg up on the competition like you said. Whether its better tracking, good traffic deal, buying very specific targeted traffic, landing page spin etc..

09-08-2013 12:12 AM #23 dr_ngo ()

I made a quick blurb talking about countries on my Facebook

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...88893458_o.png

The mistake I see people make is they're trying to figure out how to make $10,000 a day, when they haven't even made $500 a day yet. Don't worry about growth and scale, that'll come naturally.

Start off with a less competitive country so you can learn the basics of the niche and build momentum.

I'm still testing different angles, creatives, etc. I just started another campaign in a different GEO yesterday.

I'm planning to do a summary at the end of the month.
