heres an interesting question for ya...
whats your typical day like?
Sometimes I find myself running in circles, and when you work for yourself, from home, without a boss or direction, its easy to get into a rut.
I'm talking marketing/work wise... whats YOUR typical day look like?
really curious to hear everyones answers
I've got no typical work day really, one day I'll have my most productive day ever and the next I'll barely get anything done. One day I'll do most of my work first thing in the morning, the next day I'll have a crazy streak at night.
I'm not the planner type so this is just how things flow but it is also how I like it.
The best way I've found to ensure some level of daily productivity is by forcing myself to do five new things each day (depositing money in accounts, pausing stuff, monitoring bids, etc doesn't count). I write everything I do on a little excel sheet and if I can get at least five things done my day is considered a success. Whether that be updating banners, launching a new campaign, making major tweaks to an old campaign, etc. Usually I'd want to do more than that, but five for me is a good baseline point.
1. Take care of business and campaign needs that need immediate attention or anything that needs to be done in the AM so that it can produce a result by the afternoon.
ie: sending off an important email, funding a traffic source, etc...
2. Breakfast
3. Emails
4. Campaign/Business day to day tasks
5. Depends on the day. More work, sports, snowboarding, etc...
Wake up
Open stats, f5 f5 f5...f5 f5 f5
Go to bed
interesting...
makes me not feel so bad for fucking off sometimes...
mine is like wake and bake, surf the net, check stats/email.... setup my day.... lunch, then hardcore work for 90 min blocks... then 60 min off.... do this like 3-5x for the rest of the day.
Wake up at 3pm, eat breakfast, work until 5pm, go to the gym, shower and go out to bars/clubs for a couple of hours, go home at midnight. I really hit my stride between midnight and 6am. Not sure how many of you are night owl also. I absolutely hate and cannot adapt to a 'normal' work day. I like sleeping whenever, and waking up whenever.
1. Get an idea on how the nights worth of traffic did.
2. Eat breakfast
3. Start working on my to do list.
4. Gym, then lunch.
5. Back to work.
6. Shawtay time, monitor things from mobile.
7 am - Wake up, scratch balls, urinate, shower
7:30 am - Turn on laptop, check fb updates on phone
8 am - Still checking fb updates
8:30 am - Regret checking fb updates
9am to 5pm - Surfing STM and affiliate / motivational blogs
6pm to 7pm - Watch motivational shit on youtube
10pm - Regret procrastination for the day
11:30pm - Go to sleep, promising myself that tomorrow I will have a more productive day and crush it!!!
1. Wake up some time after noon.
2. Proceed to the office located approx. 2 meters from my bed. Am i living in my office, or do i have a baller ass office in my bedroom? Glass is half full.
3. Look at e-mails and check yesterdays campaign stats. Optimize sites/lps/ads where i can and rage at the fact that my ROI hasn't been better.
4. Get bored once all stuff is optimized and rage at the fact that i don't split-test enough.
5. Upload some new campaigns. Rage at exoclick for not being consistent with (dis)approving LPs with intropops and exitpops. End up copying a campaign like 15 times and getting it approved
6. Go to friends house and play videogames or go get drunk.
7. Repeat.
Yeah, pretty similar to a lot of you, I think!
I'm usually balancing about 3-4 different major projects plus some research stuff, so generally I get up, work out (Pilates, a bit of work on the heavy bag or whatever else I'm studying), then check email and other push media, then put together a to-do list. After that things tend to vary wildly - I break for lunch at 2pm-ish to cook and make coffee, then normally wrap up around 6-7pm and spend time with my gf, work on hobby projects or hang out with friends.
Usually I aim to get 3-5 major tasks done in a day - which can vary from "write STM tutorial" to "plan new campaigns" to "learn how to implement deferred photon mapping".
Does anyone still do the wakeup at 4pm and go to bed at 8am lifestyle. That was my life from age 19-20!
Not 1 mention of wanking, you guys are lying.

My basic 'template' for the day: http://finchsells.com/2013/08/07/an-...aily-routines/
To be honest, I'm dubious of anybody who can claim a fixed routine in this industry. Our Tuesdays are usually spent analysing Mondays to work out what might make more money on Wednesday. Short term operations are hard to break down in to a system. The most important thing is to stay flexible and respond to what's losing you money vs. making you money.
Oh, and to wank a lot.
@stackman - heh, me too! I don't do it any more - doesn't treat me so well these days. Plus, my gf would object somewhat
Ben.... mr green doesn't need to... he's in AMS.... just goes down to the RLD... lets the pro's take care of it for him.. :-)

My day to day is pretty much a block of hardcore focused work, normal work, hit the gym, play some Dota 2, zzz
