Retro disapprovals are a pain. What do STM? (15)

Retro disapprovals are a pain. What do STM?

I had an image that was doing very well for me for about 2 weeks, and for some reason, out of the blue, FB retro-disapproved it. Here is the black and white version.

As you can see, it's nothing too crazy, just a woman in a bathing suit reclining. I'm just wondering why they would decide it's too sexual. Also, if I ever decide to run that image again, would that jeopardize my account? What small changes could I make to the image so it wouldn't be automatically disapproved?

Thanks in advance for any answers and insight you might provide.

I wouldn't run that image again, too much skin, boobs, legs etc for facebooks liking.

I think your idea of what's sexy and Facebooks' idea of what's sexy are quite different. With that said, I bet some users' reported your ad and Facebook retro'ed it because of that. It's pretty common knowledge that people HATE dating ads on Facebook and they report them often. This would explain why so many people who run dating constantly get account bans (if users hate it, FB doesn't want that ad). It could also be that you got retro'ed because you hit a certain # of clicks and a FB approver came around to see your ad, didn't like it, and slapped it down.

I think if you're going to run dating, just keep in mind that a lot of users hate it and will report ads. If users across the globe LOVED dating ads, I highly doubt people would be getting any retros, because people love it and Facebook would think they are a good user experience. But alas, we don't live in that world, so you'll just have to deal with it if you wanna run dating on Facebook.

I don't run dating on facebook, so I could be wrong, but I see Facebook's point of view in how they choose to run their ad network. Same as Google's. If ads on Facebook become synonymous with scams, users would stop clicking on them and would ruin Facebook's business model. On the other hand, if nobody gets scammed from ads on Facebook, then an even bigger percentage of people will click on ads more often, which makes Facebook's business model work even better. I'm not saying that dating ads are scams, but all that matters is some users' think they are.

You're showing way too much skin. They retro'ed your ad because either users were reporting it, or your account was flagged for a manual check and a reviewer saw it. My advice is to not run those kind of ads again because your account will get banned.

Best thing to do is figure out how to get ads that with higher CTR, yet won't get retro'ed by Facebook. The CPC won't be a low as your bikini pictures, but you'll make more money in the long run by keeping your account.

Ok well here is another one that was retro disapproved last night. There goes 9 ads, ouch! Now I'm worried about the ban hammer, even though I haven't gotten an email (yet). Maybe it's me, but I thought that this type of image would be ok on FB.

Can someone give me a quick run down of what they don't allow? Are women in bikinis even allowed?

Generally, if you can see significant amounts of skin, FB probably won't like it. Staying veeeeeeeery clean is the name of the game there. Look at the link dr_ngo posted - that explains it pretty clearly.

Ok thanks for the heads up both of you. It's strange that they approve the bikini images but then will ban you for those same images. I would infer from that fact that it's mostly users who are complaining, especially in the USA.

What you have to realize is Facebook ad approvals are very subjective because it depends on who actually approves them.

Some guy in India might not have a a problem with the bikini ads and approve it, then some users report the ad which gets it flagged for review, a second reviewer from USA comes in and decides it's too risque for Facebook.

The problem is when reviewer #2 takes a look at your account, and sees you've been warned a few times about these images but you keep submitting. Then they'll ban your account. If you have just one account and don't have access to more, then I highly suggest you play by their system. Even though the CPC's won't be as good as bikini pictures, I think a few months of running cleaner ads > running a few weeks of bikini ads that ends up getting banned.

some + on on dr_ngo's reply, you are better off by deleting all your retro-disapproved ads, and never use the similar "style" pics again on FB or else you gonna dig a graveyard for ya FB account.

So I've learned quite a bit since my original post, and wouldn't even think about a full bikini pic now. And you were right, FB users do hate dating ads: http://www.insidefacebook.com/2010/0...d-hate-dating/

I had this pic retroe'd recently. Then accidentally resubmitted her image three times when using power editor, doh. No warning email yet, so I've been lucky.

Clearly a lot of leg and provocation, but in my efforts to get cleaner I still need some help. There's a lot of room for interpretation between the examples given on the FB dating guidelines page. I'm wondering about certain types of images, so any feedback from you Dr Ngo or anyone else who has a handle on it, would be much appreciated. Yay or nay on these images?

Big boobs but covered?

sporty yet...

sexy reclining...

sexy position but not much skin

I have a feeling you guys will say no to all of them because they are all sexy, but definitely skin is not a problem here. Too sexy is! I know the blocking out is kind of cheesy, my apologies.

This isn't the vertical I run on FB, so these are going to be slight guesses, but I'd expect that #1 might get through and might not, #3 and #4 definitely wouldn't (I don't think FB's approvers would like the thigh-highs ) #2 might well depend on the angle of the text (does the fitness thing have anything to do with your ad, or is it just a picture of a pretty woman for sex appeal's sake?).

Personally, I wouldn't run any of them on FB except maybe, maybe #1.

Retro's are why i literally quit facebook, and left it in the dust. I don't regret it at all, but i do miss mega traffic days

Yep I agree. Last night I followed my intuition and only submitted #1, which was approved. I'm sure the others would have been rejected as well, and no, I didn't have a reason for #2, other than a prurient one. Good to keep it though. If I ever found a Yoga/dating offer it might kill it.

Here is one I got through for Golf Mates weeks ago. Now that I know the rules for images I'm surprised it even got through, let alone the fact I was able to run it for a week without it getting retroed. Needless to say I removed it this week after learning the ropes.

I left POF because they became too strict and by comparison FB is much less of a headache, and the volume is incredible. At least POF doesn't ban you though. I need to read your archive of posts. What did you move on to?

Now, even if you get these ad copies approved. Your ads will only run 2 days MAX....
