[FB Ads] Where do you host your landing pages?

Hey guys,

I just joined today and I'm about to start my first dating campaign. I've been making notes from STM all day and the success in this forum is really quite incredible.

Do those of you who run dating campaigns on FB - where do you host the LP? Is it on a domain you already own?

Thanks,

Jay.

Personally I do GenericDomain.com/offer/random2029392.php and chmod 711 /offer/.

I do this instead of:

GenericDomain.com/offer/1.php
GenericDomain.com/offer/2.php
etc.

Because this way competitors can't steal all my stuff easily

Yep, most people host on domains they own. .info domains in particular are ridiculously cheap - I tend to buy at least one for each new vertical I enter, so I'm not trying to push hardcore sex products with a domain like "softlovablefluffyanimals.info"

Modulus's tip is a good one to avoid people browsing through all your landing pages, too.

Thanks for the tip guys!

I'm planning on using a HTML LP so can I still chmod 711? I have several .info domains with random 5/6 letter names like moogly, oover, oonger etc.

Jay.

CHMODing the directory to 711 just prevents others from browsing your files. An alternative is to upload a blank index.php or index.html file there. Don't CHMOD your actual page, just the directory (or add the blank index file).

You can also set your web server to prevent people browsing directories - here's a tutorial on doing that (amongst other useful things).

Thanks caurmen!

I think the Chmod 711 on folder is the easiest option for now.

Just one other question. Does it matter if my domain has WP installed onto it?

I don't know the technical details to it, but it is generally a really bad idea to host WordPress among other things on the same domain as it is known for big security breaches etc. so I'd suggest keeping it separate from all your LPs, tracking etc.

Thanks Andy. I'll purchase another generic .info domain for this and just upload HTML landing pages onto it.

Agree 100% with andyvon. Never, ever, ever host anything else of value on the same server as Wordpress - it gets hacked far too often. (The same applies to PHPBB, Ruby on Rails, and any other large, complex, frequently-attacked software stack.)

I'm hosting my LPs on Unbounce.com and I've setup a redirect from my domain. They will also track my conversions.
